Supertest: U.S. Tier VIII Premium Cruiser Congress

4 min read

So… Congress… well let’s make something clear with that thing, it is NOT based on the CA2-F (preliminary to the Alaska-class Large Cruisers). It is literally a copy-pasted Alaska hull (there is even the pennant number left on each side of the bow) on which they slapped two twin 305 mm gun turrets.

This here is the CA2-F:

It was much smaller, with two funnels; catapults on the stern and the turret layout was different with the triple turret being at the rear. When it comes to Congress, as I said, it’s literally the Alaska with a better-looking superstructure and the X and A turrets being twin instead of triple.
Somehow the displacement remains the same even though she has a reduced main battery and AA armament but at this point, whatever.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

The Armor

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Congress has the exact same armor protection as Alaska but a tier lower.

Personal Opinion

Hmmm… Why do I have a feeling of déjà vu? OH RIGHT! It’s from that time WG made a downtiered premium version of Yamato that absolutely didn’t end up being completely busted for its tier.

At least, in the case of Congress, they already nerfed her HP pool but well… the rest of the package still looks very impressive for a tier VIII cruiser.

  1. Really wish they’d toss this lazy copy-paste out and do an ACTUAL CA2-F. In addition to being more realistic, having only 4 guns that can fire forward would be a meaningful weakness to justify the lower tier.

Also wish they’d give it a territory name instead of “Congress”. Call it Hawaii, Philippines, Samoa, Virgin Islands or Panama.
