Supertest: Pan-European Tier X Freemium Destroyer Ragnar

3 min read

The Ragnar is based on a project of flotilla leader from the Swedish Navy. The project was calling for a 170 m long ship (overall) armed with two twin turrets with 152 mm, two twin 57 mm AA mounts and twelve single 40 mm Bofors.

Ragnar herself is more compact, being only 145 m long overall and her general hull design is heavily inspired by the Halland-class. She is equipped with a 7.5 km radar, the same Repair Party consumable as the high tier European destroyers and an Engine Boost. She is also “protected” with a 25 mm middle section.

For when the submarines will arrive, she is also equipped with a quadruple 375 mm ASW rocket launcher which should be a very effective weapon against them.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

The Armor

The middle section of the Ragnar and her steering gears are protected by 25 mm of armor.

Personal Opinion

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh…

Well, one thing for sure, this ship, for now, is nowhere near as busted as good ol’ Småland.

To begin with, it’s a brick with a large turning radius and low speed. She might have an Engine boost but it won’t help that much. Her firepower is also quite limited with those 4 guns and 4 seconds reload time but against cruisers, the 30 mm penetration will be nice to have.

I can somewhat see her work against enemy destroyers with the radar and 25 mm plating but at the same time, the new German Spähkreuzers would like to have a word when it comes to the effectiveness of that design.

I have to give her one thing though, her anti-air is actually impressive. The long-range somewhat sucks with very low DPS and 2 flak explosions but that mid-range… good Lord, that’s a lot of damage.

  1. Strong mid-range AA is important, because the new russian CVs can just ignore that.
