Supertest: Saladin (FV601), Tier VIII British Wheeled Medium [29 Jun ’23]

2 min read

A slightly-unusual take on a famous historical vehicle made its appearance on Supertest at the end of June 2023, taking the tier 8 spot in the upcoming line of British wheeled mediums:

VIII 🇬🇧:MT:Saladin (FV601)

The Saladin (FV601) is a Tier VIII British wheeled medium tank.

It boasts good mobility, view range and It can take up key spots on the battlefield together with medium tanks and support allies by changing its positions across the map. But be careful: the Saladin has a large vehicle profile and poor armoring.

The vehicle is equipped with a 90 mm gun that fires every 9.5 s. The penetration value of the standard shell is 215 mm, while the special shell penetrates 255 mm. Both cause 250 HP of damage. The gun dispersion is 0.36 m, and the aiming time is 1.9 s.

The frontal armoring is up to 18 mm thick. The vehicle’s durability is 1,450 HP. It has a top speed of 60 km/h and its specific power is 15 h.p./t. The view range is 400 m.

Brief Historical Background

As mentioned in our April 2023 Roadmap Sneak Peek coverage, this vehicle represents a unique historical modification of the Alvis Saladin (FV601), fitting a Kenerga 90 mm cannon (replacing the Saladin’s standard 76 mm L5A1 gun) in an enlarged turret.

The stock configuration of this vehicle, shown in the render used on the statcard above, does represent the Saladin in its normal configuration — however, that particular gun does not appear to feature the vehicle’s signature HESH rounds.

Wargaming has provided a bunch of official preview renders showcasing the vehicle’s HD model:

Additionally, WoT Express has published some early in-game previews of the vehicle (shown in top configuration, with SD textures):

This vehicle, along with the rest of the British wheeled mediums, is slated to arrive with Update 1.22 sometime in August/September 2023. Stay tuned!
