Supertest: Tier VIII Premium German Battleship Brandenburg
4 min readLet’s go back in time a bit. On the 4th of July 2020, alongside the devblog for the Florida, Wargaming teased us with the addition of the tier VIII battleship Brandenburg. We didn’t have any image, no stats, nothing. When the Public Test became available, to our great surprise, her entry was completely empty.
To go deeper, we went and checked her 3D model and ship icon files but again, it was only a partially made model. it was complete enough to determine that it was very similar to Tirpitz and the ship icon showed that she was armed with triple turrets that definitely looked like those of Odin.
It’s only now, after almost a year that the ship has a finished model and actual stats.

Historical background
Not much to talk about here. In essence, it’s just a Tirpitz with the turrets being swapped with the triple turrets found on Odin or Aegir armed with 305 mm guns. Essentially, it’s a tier VIII Pommern. Sadly, the ship gets shafted hard when it comes to the HP/tonnage formula as she gets, just like Odin, a much lower HP pool than she should have.
As a side note, surprisingly, it’s a unique model. This could be because the hull of Tirpitz is a very old model so they prefered making a model from scratch.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion
Right now, that’s a massive meh from me. 28 seconds reload on twelve 305 mm guns and with 1.6 sigma really isn’t an impressive firepower. While the armor is good, especially with the 80 mm deck, we get a massive hypekiller with the combination of low HP Odin-style and the horrible firing angles that forces the ship to show a ton of broadside to fire all guns.
Finally, last issue, she doesn’t have an Hydroacoustic Search, just like Tirpitz.

The Brandenburg is not just a Bismarck / Tirpitz with Fantasy Odin guns. Wg was based here on the preliminary drafts of the Bismarck cl*** (although not completely).
Tirpitz doesn’t get hydro ingame, just Bismarck got that feature.
Tirpitz never got hydro, Bismarck did.
Well… yes I know.
So another case of “superiour german engineering”?
Along with the “german accuracy” thing.
But between the small calibre of the main battery, the bad firing angles and the low sigma, I think this scip could do with a buff.
Imo, if the second and third issue could be fixed, it might make for a fun-ish ersatz-kongou at that tier.
