Supertest: Pan-Asian Tier VIII Cruiser Wukong and Tier IX Battleship Bajie
7 min readAs the Chinese New Year approaches, we are getting new premium ships to make it a bit more interesting.
Now… these 2 premium ships might be the weirdest I ever saw in this game. The first one is the Tier VIII cruiser Wukong that is based on the French cruiser Charles Martel and the second one is… the tier IX battleship Bajie that is based on the Izumo. For now, the ships have the exact same model as Charles Martel B-hull and Izumo C-hull but we might be able to hope for a new model for the Izumo even though only time will tell.
You might also think that it doesn’t make any sense that a Japanese battleship and a French cruiser become Chinese Premium and I heavily agree with you. Now, it does have a good side because it will allow me to go back to these 2 designs soooo… I guess that I have to say thank you to the Chinese New Year.
In both cases, I will not go back to there armor scheme since you basically just need to check the Charles Martel and Izumo to look at it on your side.
Chinese Tier VIII Cruiser Wukong
The Wukong (and by such the Charles Martel) is based on the never-completed Saint-Louis-class of heavy cruisers from the French Navy. More precisely, they are following the characteristics of the C5 A3 variant.
This new class was meant to succeed the Algérie but this time, free from the restrictions of the London Naval Treaty and Washington Naval Treaty. These ships were also meant to counter the under-construction Admiral Hipper-class heavy cruisers of the Kriegsmarine and would carry a powerful main armament of 3 triple 203 mm gun turrets with 2 superfiring forward and one aft. The ships would also be equipped with the more modern dual-purpose twin “Canons de 100 mm Modèle 1933” as well as the twin “Canons de 37 mm Modèle 1935 ACAD”.
The ships were meant to be named the same way as retired pre-dreadnought battleships: Saint-Louis, Henri IV, Charlemagne, Brennus, Charles Martel and Vercingetorix.
In the end, all work on the class was abandoned with the Fall of France in June 1940.
When it comes to the Wukong, the ship is getting an… interesting treatment to say the least. She trades the Hydroacoustic Search, the Engine Boost as well as the Main Battery Reload Booster for a Torpedo Reload Booster and Deep-water torpedoes. If this sounds like a bad trade for you, don’t worry, you are not alone.
At least, the ship as a cool name since it is named after the Chinese mythologic figure Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. Some people might know the name since it inspired the character Son Goku from the iconic manga Dragon Ball as well as a champion in the video game League of Legends.

Personal opinion
Hum… so we trade everything that makes the Charles Martel interesting for a torpedo reload booster? On a ship with only 3 torpedoes per side?
Well for me, that’s a big no.
Chinese Tier IX Battleship Bajie
The Bajie and the Izumo are both based on the Design A-140 J2 of battleship from the Imperial Japanese Navy. This design was carrying 3 triple 410 mm gun turrets, all at the front of the superstructure and with 2 superfiring at the front and one facing towards the stern.
This design was one of the MANY preliminary designs that lead to the well known Yamato-class battleships.
When it comes to World of Warships, the Bajie is a C-hull Izumo that trades reload and turret rotation speed for a better sigma and more range. At least, this time I can agree with the trade even though the ship still makes no sense at all…
The ship is named after another character from the Chinese Mythology buuuut… it is certainly not as cool as a Monkey King. This time, we are talking about an anthropomorphic pig that is often called “the idiot” in the novels covering his adventures with the Monkey King.

Personal opinion
With all the buffs that she received, the Izumo became a very strong ship.
Now they give us a more accurate version and with more range at the cost of a bit of traverse speed and 2 seconds reload. Where do I sign? Because here, the trade is definitely worth it.
This new ship might finally bring us the Izumo model rework and I’m hoping to see a special skin with a pig face at the front of the ship like the bird on Irian!
So… WG trying to appeal to chinese customers by crafting fake chinese copies of ships that never existed even in the navies they were supposed to serve in?
What’s next, Kremlin with two quad deepwater launchers on back called “Chairman Mao”?
absolutely correct. Money is money and just like in WoT, WG is trying to squeeze the chinese market giving them some ships that are better than their silver counterpart.
Is it me or is this a lowkey mocking of the chinese “i copy your stuff” thing?
Could be seen that way. Though to be fair all of the Pan Asian ships are in essence the same. The real ones were all historical US and European vessels, typically destroyers which ended up being sold off to SEA navies in the post-WW2 era when the US and other naval powers had no need for so many ships, thus many obsolete vessels that would have been decommissioned anyhow were instead sold off, for instance to the ROC and ROK navies.
just like everything else the chinese do… copy
If you havent noticed, the Chinese server is stuck on 0.7.X, so i don’t get your point of “trying to appeal to chinese customers”.
But Wukong is much worse than Charles Martel. A lot worse
