Supertest: Pan-Asian Tier VII Cruiser Chumphon
4 min readHistorical Background
The Chumphon is a hypothetic Oakland-class light cruiser that would have been transferred to Thailand.
The Oakland-class was a group of 4 ships of the Atlanta-class with a modified design, putting more emphasis on their anti-air role. The two wing turrets were replaced with more AA mounts.
If you want to learn more about the Atlanta-class as a whole, here is a video from Drachinifel covering it:
In essence, it’s Flint with deepwater torpedoes, Pan-Asian Smoke Generator and no Hydroacoustic Search.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion
Eeeeeeeeh… Well, that will be a no for me. This ship is basically a worse Flint with much weaker firepower due to the longer reload time as well as standard cruiser dispersion while Flint gets destroyer dispersion. The Smoke Generator is also arguably worse as you have the same number of charges but much less smoke time. The last nail in the coffin, Chumphon has no Hydroacoustic Search.
So… yeah. Considering that Flint is already not doing very well these days, this ship definitely won’t be in any better spot.

True, she looks like a worse Atlanta or Flint. However I think that if one isn’t allergic to PvE she can be quite easily leveled in something like Narai. Wouldn’t pick her post-grind in random in ranked over other T7 smoke cruisers…
Think that’s the big issue with that line. 3 smoke charges are way too few for a squishy ship like this (esp. one that doesnt have access to hydro) and until you get the range mod at t9, the whole line suffers from the “we removed AFT because we were to dumb to balance smolensk” syndrom…
If Early Access goes up to T7 I will grab and grind her in Narai as long as he counts as a pseudo prem. After that guaranteed port queen.
