World of Tanks Update 9.22: Preload Option2 min read
Wargaming started to test a brand new feature: Preload. Players are now given the opportunity to preload an update a few days before it comes to the live server, making it easier and faster to start playing as soon as the new update is deployed.
Download Update 9.22 in advance, starting from 31 January but please note that this is just a test of a new process. It’s not guaranteed that this distribution method will be introduced permanently.
Q: What is preloading?
Basically, you’re downloading files for a future update in advance (approximate size: 400 MB for the SD client and 600 MB for the HD client). These files will be installed only on the day of the official release. The installation will be performed after starting the launcher, once the work on the game servers is over.
Q: Does preloading Update 9.22 affect the possibility of playing World of Tanks?
Not at all, you will be able to play World of Tanks whenever you like. However, if this function is enabled, the download process will be automatically paused and resumed right after quitting the game. You can pause the download at any moment.
Q: Where are the update files stored? Can I copy them to a portable device and share them with a friend?
Yes, you will be able to share them with your friends, since the update files will be stored in the standard folder on your computer ?:\Games\World_of_Tanks\Updates (or, if your friend has installed the game in another folder Your drive:\Games\World_of_Tanks\Updates).
Q: If I click the Pause button in the launcher, will the download continue the next time or start anew?
It will resume the download.
Q: Can I select SD/HD options during preloading?
No, only files that correspond to the currently installed version will be downloaded.
Q: Where should I report any technical issues if they arise during the preloading?
We will answer all your questions regarding this topic in the forum thread about the news.

So we got a actually release date or guess yet to the actual update release?
Wasn’t it February 8th?
Eh. Not useful for me. Installation takes longer than actually downloading the files by long enough that the download time isn’t really something to worry about.
Then again, I also have 120Mb download speeds to myself.
I can see this being very useful to those who don’t have high bandwidth at home.
So yeah. Great idea.
Oof… I’m not gonna risk it, I researched the T-10 earlier today, I’m selling the hundreds of large repair/med kits to buy it today.
This was not designed for the individual player. Rather it was designed to lessen the load on the WG servers on the day of patch. In the old model on patch day WG would experience a HUGE bandwidth and download hit. If some percentage of the user base pre-downloads, then the load on WG servers is a lot less
