World of Warships Supertest: British Tier VI Submarine Undine
3 min readHistorical background
HMS Undine was a U-class submarine of the Royal Navy. The ship was laid down in February 1937, launched in October 1937, and commissioned in August 1938.
Undine had quite a short career, barely operating for a year and a half in active service before going down. She was a member of the 6th Submarine Flotilla during the Second World War. During her 4th patrol in January 1940, she suffered a sonar malfunction and was attacked by German auxiliary minesweepers. After an unsuccessful offensive, she was forced to dive and proceeded while being blind due to her sonar being down. After a few minutes, Undine raised to periscope depth but the ship quickly got hit and the crew was forced to abandon the ship and scuttle her.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

The Armor
Personal Opinion
Right now, Undine looks rather mediocre. While she has by far the best battery capacity, allowing her to stay up to 6 minutes underwater, she is also stuck with torpedoes dealing very low damage, she has low survivability and her surface speed is also FAR worse than that of U-69 and Cachalot for the times she will have to surface and recharge.
As if it wasn’t enough, she also has a limited number of Hydrophone charges and for what it’s worth, she also has a weaker deck gun than the others.
