Supertest: Tier X Soviet Aircraft Carrier Admiral Nakhimov
6 min readHistorical background
The Admiral Nakhimov is a what-if conversion of a Sovestky Soyuz-class battleship conversion. Unlike the Manfred von Richtofen and Max Immelmann, it’s actually a pretty good WG-made conversion that doesn’t make you feel like pouring bleach in your eyes.
Compared to the other tier X carriers, the Admiral Nakhimov’s squadrons all have a Repair consumable.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

The Armor
While you might expect that Admiral Nakhimov would be the tankiest tier X carrier in terms of armor, it’s actually the absolute opposite. The flight deck is only 50 mm thick and the main belt is only 125 mm or 150 mm thick.
Also, for the horizontal protection, there are only the 50 mm flight deck and the 90 mm citadel which are very close to each other. This means that the Nakhimov can more than likely get clapped by AP bombs.

Personal Opinion
We are still looking at the same, non-neglectable issue of the Soviet carriers, the combination of low HP and low speed. This means that trying to go for grouped-up ships will be an absolute pain unless we consider the combination of skip bombs and the repair.
However, there is something we just can’t neglect and it’s the massive alpha strike potential of these squadrons.
I’m still definitely waiting to see the ship in action but on paper, with careful playstyle, there is definitely some potential now that the torpedoes don’t take ages to arm and are faster.
Easter Egg
Inside the commanding bridge of the Nakhimov, just like on Pobeda, there is a map of the Kandalaksha Gulf in the White Sea. Again, I have no idea of why it’s there.
Sidenote
Ah right… I heard that a lot of people believe that the Nakhimov has an angled deck. She doesn’t.
What people thought to be an angled deck are just catapults on each side of the flight deck.

Still pissed we didn’t get Project 72 (Move Kronshtadt conversion to tier 10 cuz technology difference) or Project Kostromitinov for tier 10, We still got one of them left and izmail conversion to make enough premiums. But we got this impossible conversion and the Chkalov…
Yeah, it’s weird that WG went for a completely made-up Sovestky Soyuz conversion instead of any of actual 1940s Soviet designs.
I’m also disappointed that we aren’t getting the Tu-91 Boot for the Tier X torpedo bomber. Instead of the first ever Soviet aircraft actual designed to be carrier-based, WG went with a land-based dive bomber that was never even conceived of as carrying a torpedo.
