Supertest: Italian Tier VIII Destroyer Vittorio Cuniberti
4 min readHistorical background
Vittorio Cuniberti is based on the Maestrale Potenziato which was a design from the early 1930s. This design was meant as a larger version of the Maestrale-class of destroyers and would carry three twin turrets with 120 mm guns, two superfiring at the front and one at the rear. The torpedo armament would have been greatly reduced with only a single triple launcher located at the rear.
In the end, the design never came to be as it was judged to be too expensive and the Regia Marina favored a greater number of smaller units.
In World of Warships, we are getting an altered design with the main difference being the addition of two quadruple torpedo launchers. Compared to the previous ships, she gets an Emergency Engine Power consumable to give her higher chances to evade enemy shells when fighting.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

The Armor
The Vittorio Cuniberti’s hull is 19 mm thick while the superstructure is protected by 13 mm and the turrets by 6 mm.
Personal Opinion
As a gunboat, the Cuniberti definitely looks solid. The firing range starts to be a bit more alright, especially with Main Battery and AA Expert as well as Sansonetti’s Far Reach.
Her SAP DPM is also something you simply cannot ignore and she might prove to be quite nasty to deal with for other destroyers.

Now the line starts to become much more interesting. I’m not sure I can handle the grinding, but I’d really like to play with the T8 DD.
