World of Tanks Update 9.21 Preview
3 min readBritish Tank Destroyers
We heard from many of you that the non-turreted British TD line didn’t feel fun. Though the ATs never failed to get a lot of well-placed shots down-range, their fire rates were totally offset by low damage, and the notoriously huge hatches negated overall armor turning them into easy targets.
To up the worthiness of these sluggish beasts, we boosted their armor and 32-pounder guns. These steps should reinforce their strength as support vehicles that can soak up a few hits in a pinch, and rip into enemies with an immense fire rate.
A re-tuning of the line wouldn’t be complete without a proper Tier X vehicle, something that could be a natural progression from the Tortoise. The FV215b (183) didn’t fit into the “well-protected support fire” concept we formed for the line, so it steps down in “special vehicle” status and frees up a space for the all-new FV217 Badger. If you have the FV215b (183) researched and purchased, you’re keeping it and getting the newcomer when 9.21 drops.
Like its peers further down the line, the Badger equips a fast gun that easily pierces thick-skinned enemies. Its play style resembles the Tortoise in many ways, but the Badger outperforms its damage potential and protection, resulting in a more tangible step up from Tier IX. The FV217 Badger is all-out devastating as an enemy, but also proves to be a great ally when it dishes out tons of damage from afar.
When you’ve been buffing a great majority of tanks (most of which being high tiers) latley, and also moving Tier X tanks down to Tier IX?OBJ 263 and OBJ430?, you know it’s time you should consider introducing Tier XI tanks ( ?° ?? ?°)
Is this update ever coming to console?
Just a month and a couple of weeks left before I’ll get to play around with the new French Heavy line.
When is this patch going live?
God, finally, we’ve been waiting years for the 2nd branch of French heavies!
This game gets better and better every update keep up the hard work wargaming
“the non-turreted British TD line didn’t feel fun”
Actually, they weren’t that bad. Their amazing armor made up for a lot.
Somehow I cant reply to anyone, but @shade01982 The problem is their armour is incredibly easy to negate.
The AT2 has good armour, but that hatch on top is still only about 110 effective, the AT8 is basically one giant weakspot with some really thick armour bolted on in places, the AT7 has hatches that are impossible to hide unless you get a right-hand corner (or the other way round not sure what corner those are), AT 15 and tortoise have good armour and FV is pretty decent, but again they have quite large hatches on top of the tank that are impossible to hide from anything without an indestructible wall.
At long range their armour, except AT8, is good, but as soon as you start brawling, which they are kinda supposed to do it becomes pretty poor. Only thing they got going for them in case of AT7 and tortoise is their guns, the AT8 is pretty much just bad, a noob killer as any decent player can take one out easy (AT2), or the deathstar a troll that is sometimes amazing quite often awfull. (I remember oneshotting a full HP kranvagn through the front hull for example, but in exchange some almost guaranteed shots just miss.
Any chance Wargaming is going to fix the totally disastrous tier 8 matchmaking?
Keep the HD maps, keep the new French heavies. If Wargaming did not fix the MM this game is in danger of dying.
This game does not get better and better, it is stagnant and suffering from necrosis. Bring back excitement Rather than frustration… Fix MM.
I hope Klondike won’t become the same TD campfest like Nebelburg (whoever takes the initiative gets wrecked) …
