Supertest: Soviet Tier VIII Premium Aircraft Carrier Chkalov
4 min readHistorical background
The Chkalov is based on the Project 71B from 1937. The project 71B was a 22 000 tons fleet carrier project.
In World of Warships, Chkalov has a very unique design (like basically all premium CVs). She carries Torpedo Bombers, Skip Bombers AND Dive Bombers. She is also very similar to Saipan since her planes have the same stats as the upgraded planes of the Admiral Nakhimov. In fact, she also has the tier X fighter consumable. In return, her reserves are low which will force you to be careful with your engagements.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion
Well… Saipan with her “low reserves but stronger planes” aged like milk (but sadly can’t cheese people for crap) so I’m a bit concerned with Chkalov, especially with her low HP planes.
However, Chkalov has a repair consumable on all squadrons and she packs a mighty punch so… we might be up for a surprise.
On a side note, can we talk about her having pretty much better fighters than Enterprise while Enty was meant to have “the strongest fighters” (for what it’s worth) at tier VIII?
Easter Egg
Inside the command bridge of the Chkalov, you can find a model of the Tupolev ANT-25, a Soviet long-range experimental aircraft from 1933. You can also see a map of the North pole with what seems to be the trajectory of one of the flights over the North pole done with the Tupolev ANT-25. It could be the flight done by Valery Chkalov.

Have a good one and see you soon!
was kinda hoping for a prem CV with IL-10 surface attack planes with rockets and functional 45mm wingmounted cannons :-p
The planes of the Premium Tier VIII have the same stats (and sometime better ones) of the tier X ones. The torpedos are even better as they have a max alfa of 5200 vs 4900 of the tier X ones.
PS why to buy another premium if tomorrow WG can decide to “fix” it and NERF all bomb / torps value?
Anyway thanks to you guys for posting!
