Sandbox: Cavalier British Tier V Medium
2 min readThe rework to all Tech Trees in the game won’t just remove vehicles, it will also introduce three new vehicles. The first vehicle is the brand new Tier V British medium tank, Cavalier. The Cavalier, Cruiser Mk. VII, A24 project started at the end of 1940, based on a new Liberty engine with 410 hp, 70 mm of armour and a larger turret ruing to accommodate the 6-pdr.
Nuffield worked on the A24 project until the end of 1941 and it was known as “Cromwell” at the time after the design was passed onto Ruston and Hornsby. However, several other factors started to delay the project and trials only began in March 1942, revealing serious problems with the Nuffield Liberty engine. Due to these engine problems, the project ended up with three designs with different engines, A24, A27L and A27M, all these named “Cromwell” at the start, but renamed to Cavalier, Centaur and Cromwell.
500 units were built, but the tank was only ever used for training or auxiliary roles, being converted into Observation Posts and Recovery Vehicle. In World of Tanks, the Cavalier will be a British Tier V, introducing players to the Cromwell and Comet playstyles, and eventually leading them to the Centurion AX. It will feature a crew of five, Commander, Driver, Gunner, Loader and Radio Operator.
