Supertest: German Tier VI Premium Destroyer Karl von Schönberg
3 min readHistorical background
Karl von Schönberg is based on the AG Vulcan Stettin Type 1934 Destroyer design, just like Ernst Gaede.
The design was calling for a 1 500 tons destroyer able to reach 38 knots and armed with four deck-mounted 128 mm (or 150 mm) guns as well as two quadruple (initially triple) torpedo launchers.
The design was later abandoned as the Navy was asking for a 5th gun and longer travel range. However, these requirements couldn’t be met.
In World of Warships Karl von Schönberg is pretty much a copy-paste of Ernst Gaede with 150 mm guns and with some small tweaks to the anti-air. Unlike Gaede, Karl doesn’t have a Smoke Generator or Hydroacoustic Search but instead, a Repair Party (same as high tier British destroyers).

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion
Well, the ship looks alright-ish. The firepower is, baring the reload time, the same as Gaede with 150 mm which isn’t really good at tier VI and not sure if on a platform like this one I want to lose the Smoke and Hydroacoustic Search just for a Repair Party.
