World of Warships Supertest: Pan-European Tier VI Destroyer Stord

Historical background

HNoMS Stord started life as HMS Success, a Royal Navy S-class destroyer. She was laid down in February 1942, launched in March 1943, and commissioned in August 1943. However, prior to her completion, she was transferred to the Norwegian Armed Forces in exile and was renamed Stord.

Stord played a significant role in the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst, going as close as 360 m from the beast before unleashing a salvo of torpedoes on it.  After the battle, Admiral Fraser sent the following message to the Admiralty: “… Please convey to the C-in-C Norwegian Navy. Stord played a very daring role in the fight and I am very proud of her…”. In an interview in The Evening News on 5 January 1944, the commanding officer of HMS Duke of York said: “… the Norwegian destroyer Stord carried out the most daring attack of the whole action…”.

Later on, Stord took part in the Normandy landings, in June 1944.

After the war, the ship was purchased from the British government in 1946. She would continue to serve under Norwegian colors until she was sold for scrap in 1959.

Personal Opinion

Just like Muaveret, Stord doesn’t look particularly strong. Her firepower is already better than her predecessor but it’s still nothing that you can consider to be strong enough on a gunboat with torpedoes that are close to non-existent. The concealment is nothing special either and her HP pool is also quite low. Add to that the limits caused by her consumables kit with a short-duration Smoke Generator and weird Engine Boost stats too.

So yeah… Really nothing exciting.
