World of Warships: Update 0.9.5 Changes and Additions, Supertest datamining – Incoming new collaboration with Warhammer 40k!

9 min read

Ladies and Gentlemen, Update 0.9.5 that will arrive next month is bringing quite a few changes, some being simple quality of life improvements and others being important rebalancing with the changes to the Unique upgrades at tier X.

On top of that, 2 collaborations are approaching. One being with Hololive and the other with WARHAMMER 40K!!!! We still have no information about the 3rd Azur Lane collaboration but they should arrive fairly soon.

Of course, except things like camouflages or artworks, everything here is work in progress so just to be sure:

Additions and Changes coming with the Update 0.9.5

New Dockyard and Loading Screen

The main feature of Update 0.9.5 is the Hamburg Dockyard, where players will be able to see the construction of two German ships at once: Admiral Graf Spee and Odin.

phpbENnkhphphAbkpD

The Dockyard rules have been simplified since the previous iteration:

  • Ship construction at the Dockyard will consist of 20 construction levels, which you can advance through by completing Directives or spending Doubloons.
  • The reward is Admiral Graf Spee in a “Parade” camouflage. The ship becomes available when reaching construction level 10.
  • You can reach construction level 18 out of 20 just by completing Directives.
  • Levels 19 and 20 are reachable only by spending Doubloons.
  • The price of one level of Dockyard will be 1750 doubloons.

Thus obtaining of Odin is quite similar to the Cossack marathon: by completing the Directives you’ll get Admiral Graf Spee and various other rewards from the Dockyard, and you’ll also get a massive discount for Odin and her “Parade” camouflage, which sit at level 20.

Directives will be available during Updates 0.9.5-0.9.6. The first one will become available with the release of Update 0.9.5. Access to the subsequent directives will be unlocked each week.

List of Directives

Overall, it’s already way more reasonable than the previous Puerto Rico dockyard and at least, things are much better explained than last time.

With the arrival of the new Drydock event, we are also getting a new loading screen featuring Odin:

Unique Upgrades rebalancing

icon_modernization_PCM059_Special_Mod_I_Yueyang

Enhanced Armaments (Pan-Asian Tier X Destroyer Yue Yang, Slot 5):

  • Bonus which reduces main battery reload time was increased from 10 to 15%;
  • Penalty to the action time of consumables was removed;
  • Bonus which increases the action time of the “Surveillance Radar” consumable by 20% was added;
  • Bonus which increases the smoke screen dispersion time by 20% was added;
  • Bonus which reduced torpedo tubes reload time was removed.

The older version of this upgrade was unpopular because of low competitiveness with other upgrades in the slot. The new variant of the upgrade offers more aggressive gameplay with an accent on consumables and main battery instead of the concealment upgrade which involves a safe playstyle.

icon_modernization_PCM055_Special_Mod_I_Khabarovsk

Heavyweight Artillery (Soviet Tier X Destroyer Khabarovsk, Slot 5):

  • The penalty which reduced main turret traverse speed was removed;
  • Bonus to the main battery firing range was increased from 8 to 10%;
  • The 20% penalty to the action time of consumables was added

Now the upgrade emphasizes even more the aggressive main battery play style, but in return with decreases the efficiency of consumables.

icon_modernization_PCM053_Special_Mod_I_Worcester

Enhanced Countermeasures (U.S. Tier X Cruiser Worcester, Slot 6):

  • The upgrade was moved from Slot 5 to Slot 6;
  • All bonuses to consumables action time were removed;
  • Bonus which reduces the priority AA sector reload time by 20% was added;
  • Bonus which reduces the reload time of ship’s consumables by 20% was added;
  • Bonus which inreases the number of all consumables by 1 was added.

The upgrade was moved from Slot 5 to Slot 6 thus avoiding competition with upgrades which grant bonuses to maneuverability and concealment. The new parameters of the upgrade will emphasize the ship’s role as a universal cruiser capable of completing various tasks.

icon_modernization_PCM052_Special_Mod_I_Des_Moines

Enhanced Propulsion (U.S. Tier X Cruiser Des Moines, Slot 5):

  • The upgrade was moved from Slot 6 to Slot 5;
  • Penalty to the action time of “Surveillance Radar” consumable was removed.

The upgrade was too effective. In order not to deprive the upgrade of its unique features, we moved it to Slot 5, thus putting a choice between maneuverability and concealment of the cruiser.

icon_modernization_PCM050_Special_Mod_I_Henri_IV

Increased Firing Elevation of Artillery (French Tier X Cruiser Henri IV, Slot 5):

  • Bonus to the main battery reload time was reduced from 12 to 10%;
  • Bonus to the firing range reduced from +8% to +5%.

icon_modernization_PCM045_Special_Mod_I_GKurfurst

Enhanced Main Armaments (German Tier X Battleship Großer Kurfürst, Slot 6):

  • Bonus to main battery reload time was reduced from 15 to 10%;
  • Penalty to main turrets traverse speed was removed.

icon_modernization_PCM047_Special_Mod_I_Montana

Enhanced Damage Control System (U.S. Tier X Battleship Montana, Slot 5):

  • Bonus which reduces fire extinguishing time was reduced from 15 to 10%;
  • Bonus which reduces flooding recovery time was reduced from 30 to 10%.

icon_modernization_PCM044_Special_Mod_I_Republique

Additional Main Battery Loader (French Tier X Battleship République, Slot 6):

  • Penalty to main turrets traverse speed was removed.

icon_modernization_PCM057_Special_Mod_I_Shimakaze

Accelerated Torpedo Tube Reload (Japanese Tier X Destroyer Shimakaze, Slot 6):

  • The penalty which reduced torpedo tubes traverse speed was reduced from 80 to 70%.

Concerning Henri IV, Großer Kurfürst, Montana, Republique, and Shimakaze, balance changes designed to compensate for the excessive or insufficient effectiveness of their unique upgrades were made.

In the following updates, we will continue working on unique upgrades for other ships.

Combat missions and Armory upgrade

For Update 0.9.5 we’ve conducted a global update of combat missions:

  • The combat missions interface was fully updated.
  • Now Directives are located in the battle missions section.
  • The combat missions display on the post-battle screen was updated.
  • Combat missions with the “OR” condition were added: to accomplish this mission you need to complete one out of two conditions.
    • For example, earn 10,000 base XP or destroy 10 enemy ships. Completing any of these two conditions will lead to the completion of the battle mission and getting a reward. Thus, players will be able to decide which condition they like most and pick ships suitable for its completion.
  • New rewards for daily missions were added. For example, in Update 0.9.5 steel will be added in a list of rewards for daily missions in the amount of 20 per day. And in July, research points will be added there as well (for players who already have access to the Research Bureau). In total, players will be able to receive up to 1200 research points per month.

We’ve also updated the Armory:

  • Armory interface was updated
  • Navigation between sections will become easier and more comfortable.
  • Ships and camouflages available in the Armory can now be previewed in the Port.

Ranked Sprint and Clan Brawls

From June 24 to July 6, the 12th Ranked Sprint will be held in a 8 v 8 format on Tier VIII ships in the “Domination” mode.

There will also be 2 Clan Brawls:

  • On June 20, there will be the Clan Brawl #10 in a 3 v 3 format on Tier X ships without aircraft carriers, with a restriction of one battleship, cruiser and destroyer in a team.
  • On July 4, there will be the Clan Brawl #11 in a 4 v 4 format on Tier VIII ships, with a restriction of one ship of each class per team.

Maps improvements

The maps Riposte, Operation “Killer Whale”, Defense of Naval Station “Newport”, “Raptor” Rescue, Operation “Narai”, as well as the Ports of Dunkirk, Kronstadt, Designer’s Table, and Twitch Prime have been adapted for the new lighting model and enhanced HDR technology.

phpiCCAfM

There were also some small enhancements in the geometry of the maps Sleeping Giant and Greece.

  • Sleeping Giant: heights and positions of islands on the right flank were changed.  Gaps between islands located at the spawn points were closed as well.
  • Greece: a lintel located inside the A cap was replaced with the mound to avoid the situation when ships of one team could get spotted while enemies remained invisible.

Content additions

Permanent camouflage “Steel” for Yamato, Des Moines, and Shimakaze will become available in the Armory. These camouflages will grant standard bonuses but will allow you to stand out from other ships in battle and demonstrate your success in competitive modes of World of Warships to everyone. Each camouflage will cost 10,000 steel.

I have to say, that Shiny and Chrome camouflage is pretty juicy. I might get one of these myself.

“French Navy” camouflage was added for Kleber, as well as “Victorian White” camouflage for Goliath, “Freedom” for California, and “Nordic” camouflage for Ägir and Siegfried.

The ways to obtain this content will be announced later.

For those who don’t know what it’s about, Hololive is a group of “Virtual Idols” who are basically streamers/video makers filming themselves with a motion capture program that animates a 3D character. I think that they are also using a voice modification program but since that stuff… isn’t really my cup of tea, I’m not sure at all.

It also appears that the recently introduced V. I. Lenin will also be part of this collaboration even though nothing is sure yet. It’s mostly because of the camouflage that just doesn’t fit anything that you could expect from a possible collaboration ship from Azur Lane or from Warhammer 40k. The color scheme doesn’t fit the North Union (Soviet Navy) and it doesn’t correspond to anything in the Warhammer 40k franchise from what I know.

There is also the fact that V. I. Lenin stands for both Vladimir Ilitch Lenin but also for Virtual Idol Lenin.

In any case, time will give us the answer.

UPDATE: Ok, nevermind. It turns out that this was for yet another collaboration but this time with a long-distance telephony provider called “Rostelecom”.

Warhammer 40k collaboration

For now, we know very little about the details of this collaboration and it’s mostly thanks to a fail from Wargaming that we learned about it. During the Update 0.9.4, Wargaming added to their API new miniatures for the Japanese Tier VIII Battleship Asama currently in testing. At the start, the ship was announced to be a simple testbed like it was the case for Brennus or Le Téméraire when Wargaming were testing the Main Battery Reload Booster and the special saturation mechanic on French destroyers.

Well…

ASAMA

For a simple test ship, she sure has a really fancy skin right here.

Even though I don’t know a lot about Warhammer 40k, I still can recognize some of the designs of that whole universe. Here, the Asama is proudly bearing the emblems and design of the Chaos, one of the main faction of Warhammer 40k.

The most notable feature is the head of a Heldrake at the tip of the bow.

The thing is that… if Asama is now getting a Chaos skin, I can only start looking at the Zarya Zvobody (the Sovestky Soyuz clone that was also introduced as a testbed ship). I’m now fairly certain that she will also get a special skin to represent the Imperium of Mankind.

(Basically, the Imperium of Mankind is a fascist and very religious human empire that spreads across the galaxy, ruled by the Emperor of Mankind that they also worship as a living god. The best joke is that the said emperor wanted at the start to eradicate religion. How ironic.

The said empire’s best hobby is to exterminate the Xenos, the aliens of the Warhammer universe.

Ah also, the most well known military force of mankind is composed of genetically engineered 3 m tall super-soldiers with guns shooting bullets the size of your forearm.)

Special patches and flags

As a part of this collaboration, we are also getting 2 special patches and 2 flags.

PCNB229

The First patch represents the 8 branches Chaos star, symbol of the followers of Chaos.

PCNB230

The second patch represents the symbol of the Navis Imperialis, the Navy of the Imperium of Mankind.

PCEE343_Warhammer2_flag

For the flags, the first one is, once again, representing the Chaos Star.

PCEE342_Warhammer1_flag

The second flag represents the emblem of the Imperium of Mankind.

For now, this is everything I could find while datamining. In the coming days, I will have a look at the 2 ships that entered the supertest.

  1. If you are doing a War Hammer 40K collaboration, please do Orcs!

  2. Nice article, though as a 40k nerd i have to make a slight correction. The Imperium is not facist, but rather a m***ive authoritarian bureaucracy with heavy oppressive tones.

  3. To be completely right, the Imperium is a very loose confederacy of mostly-independent worlds, tied together mainly by the external danger. The average citizens of the Imperium planet have very little chances to ever meet Imperial (not planetary) authority, with the sole exception of religious system (which is kinda forced solution, since it’s the only currently-available way to implement “do NOT feed Chaos Gods” in the zoo). If not for external threat, Imperium would fell apart in matter of centuries.

  4. To me the Human Imperium of 40K always struck me as a commentary on “Dune;” which itself was a somewhat snide commentary on religion.
