World of Warships: Tier VIII Pan-Asian Destroyer Siliwangi Review
6 min readLadies and Gentlemen, today is the day of the Lunar New Year and for the occasion, we are getting 3 new premium ships. The Tier VIII Destroyer Siliwangi, the Tier VIII Cruiser Wukong and the Tier IX Battleship Bajie. I will cover them all in separate reviews and this one is focused on the Siliwangi.
Tier VIII Pan-Asian Premium Destroyer Siliwangi: The Ognevoi that tries to be Lo Yang
Her permanent camouflage gives the standard Tier VIII permanent camouflage bonuses:
She also has a special Lunar New Year skin but it doesn’t provide any additional bonus.
The Good and the Bad
The Good
- Respectable health pool
- Good firing range
- Strong torpedo armament
- 5.5 km Hydroacoustic Search
- Pan-Asian Smoke Generator with a fast cooldown
- Decent Surface Spotting Range
The Bad
- Weak firepower
- Deep-water torpedoes
- Relatively slow and doesn’t have an Engine Boost
- Large turning radius for a tier VIII destroyer
My opinion
The Siliwangi is overall a decent tier VIII destroyer that is more of a torpedo boat than a gunboat due to her weak firepower. Her deepwater torpedoes are, from my experience, a good source of damage since you can launch 10 of them and each hits pretty hard.
Her Hydroacoustic Search is also a valuable tool and will allow her to effectively contest capture points. You just have to pray hard that you aren’t facing a Lo Yang or another destroyer with Hydroacoustic Search. In that situation, depending on how good the enemy destroyer is, you will most likely lose the fight.
Health pool
The health pool is pretty good with 17 200 HP. Without counting the Repair Parties that some destroyers have, this is among the highest base health pools.
Main battery
2 x 2 130 mm/50 B-2LM | |
Maximum Firing Range | 12.510 km |
Reloading Time | 5 s |
180 Degree Turn Time | 18.6 s |
Optimal firing angles at the front | 30° |
Optimal firing angles at the rear | 30° |
Sigma | 2.00 sigma |
Maximum Dispersion | 109 m |
Shells | |
Type of Projectile | HE – 130 mm HE-46![]() |
Alpha Damage | 1 900 HP |
Damage | 570 HP |
Penetration capacity | 21 mm |
Explosion size | 0.45 |
Fire chance | 8 % |
Projectile Speed | 870 m/s |
Air Drag | 0.286 |
Projectile Mass | 33.4 |
Type of Projectile | AP – 130 mm SAP-46![]() |
Alpha Damage | 2 500 HP |
Chance to Cause Fire | -0.5 % |
Projectile Speed | 870 m/s |
Air Drag | 0.286 |
Projectile Mass | 33.5 |
Projectile Krupp | 1 700 |
Projectile Detonator | 0.01 s |
Detonator threshold | 22 mm |
The Siliwangi has the major issue of having only 4 guns in 2 twin turrets that are, on top of that, those found on the stock Ognevoi.
This means that against pretty much any destroyer of the same tier, she will be at a disadvantage when entering a gunfight. In general, if you don’t have an escape plan or that you don’t have teammates to back you up, avoid entering gunfights.
Torpedo armament
2 x 4 533 mm Quintuple PTA-53-68-bis 533 mm 53-56 Deepwater torpedoes only able to hit cruisers, battleships and aircraft carriers |
|
Reloading Time | 131 s |
Maximum Distance | 10.0 km |
Optimal firing angles at the front | 60° |
Optimal firing angles at the rear | 61° |
Damage | 17 933 |
Flooding Chance | 302 % |
Speed | 61 kt |
Surface Detectability | 0.8 km |
While the firepower of the Siliwangi is underwhelming, her torpedoes are doing a fine job.
You can drop 10 of them, they have a decent speed, they also hit quite hard and have a high flooding chance. Overall, they will be your main source of damage and will be brutal against unaware battleships and cruisers. Also, with Torpedo Armament Expertise, you can get the reload down to 117.9 s which is pretty nice.
Anti-air armament
1 x 2 85 mm/52 92-K 4 x 2 37 mm 61 shì |
|
Sector range | 0.1 km – 3.5 km |
Hit chance | 100 % |
Sector’s damage | 30 |
Sector’s damage frequency | 0.29 s |
Sector’s damage per second | 106 |
The anti-air of the Siliwangi does a better job at revealing your position than at shooting down planes. The ship only has a mid-range anti-air with a 3.5 km range and the DPS is only at 106. Except against Patrol fighters, it’s pretty much useless so just turn it off when there are Attack aircraft coming around. You will be harder to spot.
Maneuverability and Concealment
Maximum speed | 36.5 kt |
Turning Circle Radius | 660 m |
Rudder Shift Time | 4.0 s |
Surface Detectability | 7.56 km |
Air Detectability | 3.41 km |
Detectability After Firing Main Guns in Smoke | 2.88 km |
The Siliwangi is sadly a sluggish destroyer. Her base top speed is only at 36.5 knots and she lacks an Engine Boost. Her turning radius is also fairly big for this tier but then again, Russian ships have never been famous for their turning radius.
For the concealment, it’s decent. With a full stealth build (that I highly recommend), you can get the Surface detection range down to 5.9 km and the Air spotting range down to 2.8 km.

Conclusion
For all intents and purposes, the Siliwangi is a decent tier VIII destroyer. She has a good health pool, strong torpedo armament, strong consumables set but all of this is compensated by her underwhelming firepower and agility.
Now, if I had to choose between her and Lo Yang, I would definitely take Lo Yang. She has much better firepower, agility and concealment while still having good torpedoes and Hydroacoustic Search. Also, her Lunar New Year skin is way more aesthetic and as you may know, aesthetic is the single most important characteristic.
Recommended build
During the testing of the Siliwangi, I used the following captain build and upgrades:
Captain build:
- Preventive Maintenance: You want to make sure that your engines, steering gears and torpedo tubes don’t get knocked out of action from taking hits.
- Last Stand: You are a destroyer, even with Preventive Maintenance, you will still have your engines and steering gears damaged. A destroyer that can’t maneuver is a dead destroyer.
- Adrenaline Rush: Quite useful to get a faster reload on your torpedoes and guns.
- Survivability Expert: The more HP you have with your destroyer, the more risksyou will be allowed to take and also the more chance you will have to survive longer.
- Torpedo Armament Expertise: The ship is a torpedo boat type of destroyer so you won’t spit on a faster reload.
- Concealment Expert: You are a destroyer, specifically a torpedo boat, so you want to keep a low profile.
- Radio Location: The ship doesn’t have the best concealment and also relatively weak firepower. With Radio location, you will be able to get an early warning of where you can expect enemy destroyers to appear and you will also be able to provide information to your teammates.
Upgrades:
Main Armament Modification 1: You want to keep your armaments working.
Hydroacoustic Search Modification 1: Having a longer working time for the Hydroacoustic Search can be quite useful. Alternatively, you can take Propulsion Modification 1 or the new upgrade that should arrive with 0.9.1 and that combines Propulsion Modification 1 and Steering Gears Modification 1.
Aiming System Modification 1: It’s basically the only real option on this slot.
Propulsion Modification 2: The ship’s rudder shift time is already good enough and Propulsion Mod will prove itself useful in case you have to make an emergency acceleration to dodge torpedoes for example.
Concealment System Modification 1: Just like for Concealment Expert, it’s a torpedo boat so you want to be spotted as rarely as possible and also don’t want to get out-spotted by any other destroyer that can just outgun you.
This concludes my review of the Siliwangi. I will try to do the reviews for the Wukong and Bajie tomorrow but if you want a quick summary, Wukong is just a worse Charles Martel with useless gimmicks and Bajie is a better but overpriced Izumo.
no short historical notes/intro sentence on what this ship is based on? had to google it myself 🙁
I’m currently collecting information myself, as soon as I have more, I’ll publish an article 🙂
For the historical background, allows me to send you to this article:

In general, I keep the history of the ship for the supertest article.
