World of Warships Supertest: Spanish Tier III Cruiser Navarra
5 min readHistorical background
Navarra, originally named Reina Victoria Eugenia, was a unique light cruiser of the Spanish Navy. The ship was laid down in March 1915, launched in April 1920, and completed in January 1923. Her initial armament consisted of nine 152 mm guns in single mounts and four torpedo launchers in pairs above water.
Her first deployment would be during the Rif War in which she served as flagship of the Spanish squadron. After the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic, Reina Victoria Eugenia was renamed Republica. However, she would not keep that name for long. When the Spanish Civil War started, she was captured by the Nationalists while undergoing a major refit. Her main battery was moved to the centerline with only six guns remaining, her torpedo tubes were removed and a new anti-air armament was fitted. Her superstructure was also heavily modified and Republica was renamed Navarra. As the ship only re-entered service in 1938, she had limited war service.
For the rest of her career, Navarra was used as a training ship until she was decommissioned in 1951 and scrapped in 1956.
In World of Warships, we are getting Navarra as she was after the completion of her Civil War refit.
Ship’s preview
For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion
Navarra doesn’t look particularly good right now. Her firepower is on the low end of the spectrum, especially with her poor firing angles and she isn’t particularly fast either. She also happens to have a pretty damn vulnerable citadel while quite a few other tier III cruisers have an almost non-existent/unreachable citadel.
