World of Warships Supertest: Soviet Tier VIII Premium Cruiser Dmitry Pozharsky

4 min read

Historical background

Dmitry Pozharsky was the sixth ship of the Serdlov-class light cruisers from the Soviet Navy. The ship was laid down in February 1952, launched in June 1953, and Commissioned in December 1954.

As she entered service during peacetime (Well, technically during the Cold War), her career was a pretty quiet one, traveling around the world. She would be deployed in the Northern Fleet and later Pacific Fleet (which was also covering operations in the Indian Ocean).

She would serve until March 1987 when she was disarmed and decommissioned. She was later sold for scrap to an Indian company in 1990.

In World of Warships, she is joining her sister Mikhail Kutuzov and Irian (previously named Ordzhonikidze) but with a very different archetype. Pozharsky is only able to fire AP shells with improved ballistics and penetration angles. She is also equipped with a Short-burst Smoke Generator.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion

Overall, this ship looks quite promising. While she can only fire AP shells, she gets ludicrous railgun-like ballistics, great firing range, and strong penetration for 152 mm shells. The Short-burst Smoke Generator is also always welcome on a cruiser like that as she can have the consumable ready whenever you will be in trouble.

Some might criticize the lack of a short fuze on the AP shells but it’s both a good and a bad thing. It is a bad thing because she will struggle to deal with destroyers and if particularly thinly armored cruisers sail broadside in front of her, chances are that they will only get overpenetration. However, it is also a good thing because she is far less likely to get screwed by torpedo bulges and other types of spaced armor configurations.
