World of Warships Supertest: Japanese Tier VII Cruiser Omono

Historical background

As far as I could find, Omono is a fake design. However, she is based on a ship that existed and served during the Second World War, the Ooyodo. If you want to learn more about that specific ship, here is a video from Drachinifel covering it.

When it comes to Omodo, the ship is actually Ooyodo with a modified rear section, adding two triple 155 mm turrets instead of the rear commanding accommodation and catapult. She is also the first ship of the Japanese light cruisers line that gets access to “wiggling torpedoes”, allowing her to fire her torpedoes at angles beyond what would normally be possible based on the firing angles of her torpedo tubes.

Considering how incredibly similar the two ships are, Omono might be a way for Wargaming to have already a good 3/4 of the model done for Ooyodo that might end up being a hybrid cruiser.

Personal Opinion

Honestly, compared to the previous two, Omono looks quite good. While she has the long 12 seconds reload on her main battery, it’s still a twelve-guns broadside and she somehow gets the 31 mm penetration even though she is a tier VII cruiser. At this tier, it is quite significant as a DPS cruiser and compared to her competitor. She still is incredibly squishy though and is much slower than Gokase.
