World of Warships Supertest: British Supercruiser Edgar

4 min read

Historical background

Edgar is a fictional follow-on design to the Design Z, also known as the never-built Minotaur-class. The ship is a larger version of Minotaur with an additional turret for a broadside of twelve guns. She also presents a much stronger anti-air as she carries 76.2 mm OTO-Melara Compact AA mounts, an Italian AA weapon from the 1960s.
As a cherry on top, the ship even carries a Limbo ASW rocket launcher on the stern and also has a helicopter landing pad.

Wargaming labeled Edgar as a design from 1975 which officially makes her the most modern ship in the game.

Special Ability

Alternative firing mode settings:

  • Reload time: 30 s
  • Interval between shots: 1,5 s
  • Number of salvos in a firing sequence: 4
  • Penetrations of AP shells increases around 2 times
  • Max damage of AP shells increases around 1,5 times

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion

Sooooo… for those who still feel like playing destroyer, that thing might make you reconsider your life choice.

Just close your eyes and imagine. You are calmly sailing around, minding your own business and all of a sudden, you get radared and an Edgar with alternative fire mode pops up at 9.47 km from you.
You, all of a sudden, have 48 shells with 4 800 of alpha damage each flying at you in 6 seconds. That kind of scenario also works with cruisers by the way, especially with the penetration of the shells being doubled. As long as a cruiser doesn’t have an internal citadel, Edgar will be able to demolish it in short order.
This ship can literally vaporize targets she might come across AND THAT’S NOT ALL!

Unlike the Minotaur with her massive citadel, Edgar’s citadel is internal under the turrets and doesn’t rise around the engines. Even if the ship is larger, she is also harder to punish. This means that she has a lot more freedom of movement when it comes to using her crazy firepower, especially with all turrets being able to turn at 360° which allows you to have all guns on target in an instant and no matter how you are maneuvering.

As the cherry on top, her anti-air is also particularly scary with very high DPS and a mid-range aura that extends to 5.0 km.

  1. Yuzorah you have developed into an excellent reviewer of WoWs ships. Personally I greatly prefer written reviews over video as I can print them out and read them at my leisure, as well as highlight key points that I want rapid access too. Keep up the excellent work.
