World of Warships – Commander Skill Rework: Recommended builds

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Commander skills rework is here for the better… or the worse (like for example all servers turning into ASIA with full HP battleships camping in the spawn because of that cursed Deadeye skill or battleships players complaining that they don’t have access to Survivability Expert anymore).

Last time, I provided a list of recommended builds for carriers and was planning to release articles to cover the other ship types. The thing is that it would be pretty damn long to do and the discounted commander reset won’t last forever. There is also the issue that I could likely get stuff wrong or neglect skills that would be more valuable on certain ships or simply forget that certain premiums need specific builds. Finally, as much as I’m a Swiss army knife in this game, being able to play all classes at a good level (with a pretty damn sharp carrier side), there are definitely more knowledgeable people than me for other ship types.

As such, with other strong players from various clans, we worked on a document in which you will be able to find recommended builds (including the upgrades) for the various nations and ships. Keep in mind that this document is bound to evolve. Some skills will most likely change with upcoming updates, becoming more or less valuable, new builds will be added for the different premiums or special ships, etc.

You will be able to access the document via the link below. It is divided into 2 main categories with the first covering Tier 10 ships and their respective lines when the skills are compatible and the other one covering Premium ships or tech-tree ships that will need a specific build. Each of these 2 categories is subdivided into 4 sections, one for each ship type.
For each build, you will find the recommended upgrades and skills as well as additional comments to guide you and propose alternative skills.

WoWs Fitting Tool

Since we are at it, I would also recommend you to have a look at the website WoWs fitting tool (link below) with which you will be able to tinker your own builds freely in the Fitting Tool section without the limitations that you might face in the game. Just be aware that the owner of the website is still working on linking the skill tree with the ship parameters because the coding of the new skills in the game files is an absolute mess and as such, he has to hard code it for his website on his own.

  1. They should have given us a shoice to change the skills it looks like some 10 year old made it up

  2. Can you add an index of the abbreviations? As a non-native English speaker it’s difficult to find out what all the abrreviations mean, eg “You may swap IFHE or TGG for SE or RPF if you prefer”

  3. Why is it better to take concealment mod over Montana legendary mod?

    1. Because the unique upgrade of Montana is just terrible.
      The flooding and fire time reduction are minimal, the rudder shift time gain is way less valuable than the improved concealment and also the steering gears repair time bonus is useless because unless you take a torpedo right into your steering gears, they will always work.
