Supertest: Pan-EU Tier VIII Premium Destroyer Orkan
4 min readORP Orkan (“Windstorm”) was an M-class destroyer of the Polish Navy. Initially launched as HMS Myrmidon on 2nd March 1942, the ship was transferred to the Free Polish Navy based in Britain in December 1942.
In early 1943, Orkan served in the Arctic, escorting convoys to Russia and was later transferred to the North Atlantic. In July 1943, she transferred the body of the Polish Supreme Chief General Władysław Sikorski from Gibraltar to England.
It’s on 8 October 1943 that her story would end. As she was escorting the convoy SC 143, the ship was hit by a torpedo from the submarine U-378 and quickly sank. Out of the 223 men on board, only 44 survived, rescued by HMS Musketeer.
In World of Warships, Orkan follows a similar concept to the Småland at Tier X. Unlike the tech-tree Pan-EU destroyers, she has access to a Surveillance radar consumable that is backed up by strong firepower.
Just like Lightning, her turrets can also turn at 360° which will make it even better for fighting enemy destroyers while actively dodging. However, compared to her, she trades a torpedo launcher for… a single 102 mm gun that works as a secondary battery…

The armor
The Orkan presents the classic armor that you can expect on a tier VIII destroyer. Her hull is 19 mm thick, the superstructure is 13 mm thick and the turrets are covered with 6 mm of armor.
Personal opinion
As a destroyer hunter, this ship definitely looks promising. The strong firepower combined with the Surveillance Radar and Repair Party will definitely allow her to take down enemy destroyers without too many troubles unless we are talking about some of the Tier X ones that would eat her alive.
For the rest… I still hate the lack of a Smoke Generator and having only a single torpedo launcher will certainly be an issue sometimes.
