Supertest: Italian tier II Destroyer Curtatone
4 min readHistorical background
The Curtatone class was the first class of destroyer built by the Regia Marina after the First World War. The ships were also the first destroyers to use twin mounts instead of single mounts for the main battery.
Curtatone herself was laid down in January 1920, launched in March 1922 and commissioned in June 1923.
The ship’s career before the Second World War was very quiet, just being used for patrols and by the end of the 1930s, the ship was already considered obsolete.
When the war started, she was employed in convoy escort duties. She would meet her end in May 1941 when she hit a mine and quickly sank near Athens.
In World of Warships, Curtatone introduces the new Italian destroyers line. The ships are, for now, characterized by a very short main battery firing range but high damage per minute with HE and SAP shells being available.
They also have long-range torpedoes but with low damage and speed.
Ship’s preview
For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

The Armor
The Curtatone is covered with 6 mm of armor everywhere. I don’t have any visuals because, for whatever reason, it’s all black.
Personal Opinion
Well, as much as it’s tier II where you can get away with a whole lot of things, that main battery range really worries me. Even if we go with Main Battery and AA Expert to increase the range, we would only reach 7.0 km.
Considering that the ship isn’t particularly fast, it might prove to be tricky to not just get obliterated in no time, especially since Curtatone doesn’t even get a Smoke Generator.
