In 1969, a military delegation from Italy visited Germany to discuss the purchase of Leopard tanks. However, not all members of the delegation agreed with the purchase of foreign equipment.
The Italian military and organizational structure outlined the main wishes for the future tank: decent armour angles, cast tower and gun mask. and the powerful engine that would resulting in the creation of a small, light, mobile, but well-protected vehicle. The design took into account British and Soviet designs but never passed the design stage.
