World of Tanks Supertest: EMIL 1951 – Swedish Heavy Tank

2 min read

Today a new Swedish tank enters Supertest, EMIL 1951, a Tier VIII Premium heavy tank with an autoloader! What many players have been asking for, to better fit the current Tech Tree that always has been missing a high Tier Premium heavy tank.

In terms of gameplay, it will look like a lighter version of the regular Tier VIII EMIL I, with less armour but more mobile. It has one less round in the loading mechanism, but the aiming parameters are better and it’s also faster shooting.

The hull has less armour offering less protection, but with its new 400 HP engine, you will be able to relocate easier using it’s increased 15.15 hp/t specific power. Aside from this, there isn’t much difference from the regular Emil I and the main question will be: how much power creep will be compared to it.

On the other hand, a small but more positive note is, the EMIL 1951 turret seems to be modelled to the real specification of EMIL 1951 project. It still has small differences, but certainly is more accurate and to be fair, it should be what Wargaming should’ve used since the start. In regards to the hull, I couldn’t find any information if this was a real proposal or just a made-up version to fit the purpose. For now, all we can think is that it’s just yet another clone to fit the missing gap.

As always, depending on test results the above characteristics might change. What do you think of EMIL 1951? Looking forward to it or would you prefer something a bit different but more historical?

  1. What? It has 3 shells and 217 pen… where did you get those values?

  2. It is written 217/242/53 pen. Maybe you are talking about my IS-6 (RIP). Oh, but it is gonna be buffed: 186 pen, damn it!

  3. I hope that 400hp engine is a typo… otherwise this thing is gonna be way underpowered in the mobility category.

  4. I think Mike is saying it’s a five shot. (Taking 5 shots before being destroyed?)

But the 179 Pen, I don’t have the slightest idea what he’s talking about. XD

  5. So this is essentially the current tech tree tank with minimal differences. Wasn’t the actual Emil 1 meant to be a pike-nosed design the same size as the Emil 1951?

So why not just rename the current “Emil 1” as the “Emil 1951” then make the pike-nose Emil 1 the tier 8 premium? Give it historical armor and engine and then you would actually have a tank that’s more mobile while being less armoured.

As it currently is this is just stupid and arguably the most copy/paste money grab tank WG have released to date

  6. Are we not gonna acknowledge all the IS-2 clones in the game?

  7. IS-2 is a bit different in that they’re in different nations, same with the Centurion 1/Strv 81. Same tank, different nations. Still a clone tank but a little more acceptable as it offers something to a different nation.

This is literally the same tank in the same nation though

  9. The IS-2M and the non-Chinese IS-2 are literally in the same nation as the IS. Both are practically identical to the IS and nobody bats an eye. Suddenly they plan to do the same thing in the Swedish tech tree and everybody loses their mind. #logic.

  10. ignoring Russian bias. IS-2M actually has a noticeably different hull front which does change its armor profile enough to warrant it being cl***ed as a different tank. As for the IS/IS-2, there’s actually a difference in its mobility stats and armor as well as terrain resistances.

Differences that are more noticeable then between the Emil 1 and 1951.

Not to mention they were released long before people were this sick of clone tanks. And it also doesn’t help that WG did suck a ****ing **** job making up whatever stat values for the Swedish HTs.

They honestly need to just change the name of the Emil 1 to the Emil 1951 (which it should be and actually is in the game files), then they can release the Emil 1 in its correct pike-nose design. And you know what? No one would bat and eye at that: https://i.imgur.com/bD0cMiN.png
