Holiday Ops 2023 Large Boxes: New Vehicles, 3D Styles (+ a Cat!)

10 min read

As you can see from the previous article, there’s quite a bit of free + exclusive content in store for Holiday Ops 2023!

However, as is tradition by now, it wouldn’t be Holiday Ops without the arrival of the premium Large Boxes. For those who have been waiting to learn the contents of these boxes, they have now been officially unveiled:

Large Boxes: What’s Inside?

As with previous years, Wargaming has stated that the contents of each box you open will be worth at least what you pay for the box.

Each box will come with a guaranteed :gold:250 gold and items relevant to the event — previously, these would’ve taken the form of decoration items, but – as the individual decoration items themselves no longer contribute towards event progress – this time around you will receive 150 random Holiday Ops resources as well as 50 resources corresponding to the type of box you purchase:

Each New Years Box will grant 50  Rock Crystal.

Each Christmas Box will grant 50  Pure Emerald.

Each Lunar Box will grant 50  Warm Amber.

Each Magic Box will grant 50  Meteoric Iron.

Furthermore, you will be guaranteed to receive one surprise item in every box:

  • Common Items: 85.94% Drop Chance
    • 1, 3, or 7 days of :premium: WoT Premium Account
    • :gold:250, :gold:500 or :gold:1,000 Gold (on top of the guaranteed :gold:250)
    • :credits:100,000 or :credits:500,000 Credits
  • Special Festive Character (more details below): 10% Drop Chance
    • Redshire Сat, a special festive character who provides you with additional Assignments to earn even more rewards
  • A Tier II–V Premium vehicle (more details below): 11.66% Drop Chance
  • A Tier VIII or IX Premium tank (more details below): 2.4% Drop Chance
  • 3D Styles: 5% Drop Chance
    • One of five brand-new 3D styles, exclusive to a set of selected Tier IX and X vehicles
    • One of six 3D styles from last year’s Large Boxes (if you do not already have them)

Who is the Redshire Cat?

Along with Premium tanks, 3D styles, and other goodies, you may come across a fluffy but self-assured Redshire Cat hiding in your Large Boxes. 🐱 This is a unique Holiday Ops character that you can always see at Headquarters alongside our celebrities.

Of course, a cat is cool on its own and all, but why is this feline compatriot present inside the Large Boxes? Besides finding them to be a comfy place to sleep in, this Cat will bring you three additional easy Assignments, which will grant special rewards upon completion. Using Warm Amber and Meteoric Iron to fulfill them will allow you to get your hands on the following:

  • :premium: 1 day of WoT Premium Account
  • :decal: A unique set of cat-themed decals

  • :2dst: A special cat-tastic 2D style

Likewise, if you receive the Redshire Cat from opening a Large Box, it will remain in the comfort of your cozy Village until the end of the event. Enjoy – but also respect – its presence!

New and Returning Vehicles + Guaranteed Vehicle Mechanics

New premium vehicles are a staple of Large Boxes, and that much continues to ring true through this year. This time around, there are three (3) new high-tier premiums and three (3) new low-tier premiums included as potential drops:

High-Tier Premiums (2.4% Drop Chance)

NEW! VIII 🇺🇸:MTelite:M47 Iron Arnie (featuring a unique style based on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s real M47 Patton tank)

A multi-role Tier VIII American medium tank, and the undisputed star among our brand-new headliners! This is an improved version of the M47 Patton II tank, with an enhanced armament and armor, and is based on the same vehicle that Arnold Schwarzenegger owns! Additional protection is provided by metal screens on the turret and hull, and a 105 mm gun was installed for firepower. Its dynamics and aiming time are not the best at Tier VIII, but they are well made up for by the excellent 230 mm of armor penetration with a standard AP shell and outstanding frontal protection. The multi-role M47 Iron Arnie can play as a powerful assault tank on the most dangerous sectors of the front line and carry its team.

The M47 Iron Arnie comes with a special style based on Arnie’s real M47 Patton.

NEW! VIII 🇨🇳:HTelite:BZ-176 (featuring the new rocket booster mechanics)

A Chinese Tier VIII heavy tank, and a pioneer of the upcoming branch featuring the new jet booster mechanic. This slow but sturdy brawler has excellent armor characteristics, reaching 250 mm in the turret. Another feature of the BZ-176 is its 160 mm gun with good aiming time, and a damage per shot of 650 HP with a standard AP shell. Just beware of its very long reload time. The BZ-176 has a top speed of 30 km/h, but keep in mind that the jet booster mechanic increases the engine power and top forward speed, turning your vehicle into an unstoppable combat typhoon clearing everything in its path.

NEW! IX 🇫🇷:LTelite:Char Mle. 75 (the first tier IX from Large Boxes, featuring two engine modes + a unique burst-fire autoloader with 2 rounds of 3 shells each)

A French Tier IX light tank, and a truly unique vehicle for your collection. This agile scout with skill-based gameplay features two speed modes: standard mode (the default one) and rapid mode (the fast one). It is armed with a 100 mm gun equipped with a six-shell autoloader. But the most interesting hallmark is that the gun fires bursts of several shells, not single shots. The burst includes three shells, each of which causes 200 HP of damage. The vehicle’s gameplay is based on the timely switching between the two speed modes.

VIII 🇮🇹:TDelite:SMV CC-64 Vipera

An Italian Tier VIII tank destroyer with a significant 400 HP of alpha damage and 220 mm of default penetration. It packs a powerful autoloader, firing five shells in 24 seconds, with an unconventional six-second delay between shots. Plenty of frontal armor, a semi-traversable turret, and -10 degrees of gun depression make this viper the ultimate hunter, allowing you to cause a quick 2,000 HP of damage.

VIII 🇺🇸:MTelite:AMBT

An American Tier VIII medium tank featuring a three-shell autoreloader. As the game’s first American autoreloader, the AMBT is a hybrid between single-shot and autoloading tanks. This, combined with its ricochet-friendly hull design, reliable turret, and appreciable gun depression, makes the AMBT a great tank for hull-down tactics. This gunslinger gives you the tools you need to become a unique support warrior in any battle!

Low-Tier Premiums (11.66% Drop Chance)

NEW! V :flag_ussr_wot::TDelite:SU-2-122 (a blueprinted design for a twin-barreled self-propelled gun based on the T-34 chassis)

A Tier V Soviet tank destroyer, and another one-of-a kind vehicle. This is the first double-barreled TD and the first double-barreled HE-based gameplay vehicle in the game. Externally, it is a chassis from a T-34 tank, on top of which is a cabin with two 122 mm howitzer guns. They can fire HE or HEAT rounds simultaneously or one after the other. For the opportunity to destroy a same-tier vehicle with one double shot, you will have to pay with poor accuracy and aiming time. The SU-2-122 also inherited decent mobility and mediocre hull armor from the T-34.

NEW! V :flag_germany_wot::HTelite:Pz.Kpfw. KW I (r) (the legendary captured KV-1, re-armed with a German 75 mm gun and equipped with a Panzer III’s cupola for improved vision)

A Tier V German heavy tank. This is a captured KV-1 tank with a modernized turret and a German 7,5 cm Kw.K. 40 L/48. This tank retained the main features from the KV-1: decent all-around armor and good armament, but poor mobility. Unlike the KV-1, it has a better damage-to-rate of fire ratio—it causes less damage per shot but reloads faster. The Pz.Kpfw. KW I (r) also features a higher view range thanks to the commander’s cupola on the turret.

NEW! IV 🇬🇧:LTelite:Harry Hopkins I (an evolution of the Tetrarch light tank, featuring a 2-pdr gun with the famous “Littlejohn” squeezebore adapter)

A Tier IV British light tank. This is a classic British light scout with a chassis from the Tetrarch I tank, plus a reinforced hull and an improved turret. Armed with a fast-firing 40 mm 2-pdr Gun Mk X-B HH, the A 25 Harry Hopkins I is great for all fans of an aggressive and assertive playstyle.

III :flag_ussr_wot::LTelite:M3 Light

A Tier III Soviet light tank. This legendary vehicle was created in 1938–1941 based on the M2 and entered mass production in 1941. A total of 13,000 vehicles of different modifications were produced and supplied to almost all Allies under Lend-Lease. This vehicle features very good frontal armor for a light tank, immune to most guns. The М3 Light is an effective flanker, and it has a fast-firing gun but low penetration, so shooting at the sides of enemy tanks is a must.

II :flag_germany_wot::LTelite:Pz.Kpfw. 38H 735 (f) (a.k.a. the formidable “Micro Maus”)

A Tier II German light tank. During the French Campaign, Germany captured about 600 Hotchkiss 39 vehicles, which were modified and continued to serve in Wehrmacht units. World of Tanks veterans may remember that the “Minimaus” or “Hotchy” was once the most feared tank in Tier II battles. It is basically a Hotchkiss H35 with significantly better top speed, hit points, frontal armor, view range, and penetration. You may use it as a breakthrough tank or a durable sniper.

Guaranteed Vehicle Mechanics

Yet another feature carried over from previous previous boxes of this type (including previous years’ Large Boxes, the Engineer’s Gates from the Waffenträger gamemode, etc): this year’s Large Boxes feature the return of guaranteed vehicle mechanics once more (which some know by a more informal name, the “pity system”).

It’s simple: If you open 49 boxes but still have not received a Premium vehicle, then, with the 50th opening, you’re guaranteed to receive a random Premium Tier VIII or IX tank that you don’t already own from the set list.

There will be a special guaranteed vehicle counter in the game client on the Large Box opening screen. Each time you get a Tier VIII or IX Premium tank, this counter is reset, and the countdown to the next Tier VIII or IX vehicle drop starts over.

As soon as you have all the Tier VIII and IX vehicles from Large Boxes on your account, you will be compensated in :gold:gold for the value of each subsequent dropped tank according to the standard rules, and a Garage slot will be added to your account.

Compensation

If you receive a vehicle that is already in your Garage, you will be compensated its full value in gold, no matter how many times it happens:

M47 Iron Arnie:gold:9,100
BZ-176:gold:9,900
Char Mle. 75:gold:9,500
Vipera:gold:9,950
AMBT:gold:9,850
Pz.Kpfw. 38H 735 (f):gold:750
M3 Light:gold:850
A25 Harry Hopkins I:gold:1,000
Pz.Kpfw. KW I (r):gold:1,500
SU-2-122:gold:1,500

3D Styles for Tier X Vehicles (+ a Tier IX!)

The following brand-new 3D styles will be included as potential drops from this year’s boxes, at a combined 5% drop rate (including last year’s styles if you missed them):

  • “Jupiter Fulgur” for  X the Super Conqueror
    • On top of its intriguing visual style, which has been described as a “hot combination of art deco and electro-punk”, this also features two unique effects: sparking surge arresters on the turret, as well as a first for a 3D style — an animated HP indicator on the turret rear, with five individual sections which light up/turn off corresponding to the vehicle’s hitpoints.
  • “Sleipnir” for  X the Strv 103B
    • This is another animated style, featuring another new effect: a reactive set of equipment – namely, a laser rangefinder and radar componentry – which changes depending on the vehicle’s active mode. These components will sit idle while the vehicle is in its movement mode, but when you switch into siege mode, the laser rangefinder and radar both telescope upwards, and the radar begins to rotate back-and-forth.
  • “Asterius” for  X the Controcarro 3 Minotauro
    • This style does not feature any unique visual effects, but as a bit of trivia, the turret face features a painted maze as an easter egg towards the vehicle’s name — at the end of the maze, you will meet the ferocious Minotaur(o) guarding the exit. (Likewise, the style adds a set of remote-controlled cannons, akin to a Minotaur’s horns.)
  • “Constellation” for  X the Bat.-Châtillon 155 58
    • No major easter eggs here — just a cool style for an… artillery piece. Unless you count the camouflage nets as an easter egg, I suppose… 🏕️
  • “Levante” for  IX the Char Futur 4
    • As mentioned above, this notably marks both the first tier IX style to be included in Large Boxes as well as the first 3D style for a Battle Pass reward tank!

Additionally, if you did not receive any of the six (6) 3D styles from Holiday Ops 2022, these will also be included in the drop pool:

Each style can only be received once, and will no longer be in the drop pool if you have it in your depot/garage.

All items dropped from opened Large Boxes will be displayed on a special screen in the game client so you can easily keep track of the gifts you have received.

If you still have unopened Large Boxes at the end of the event on your account, they will be opened automatically. Once the event ends, any Large Boxes that you sent as gifts but were not opened by their recipients will return to your account and be opened automatically.

Boxes will go on sale starting Thursday, 1 December 2022, and will remain available until Sunday, 8 January 2023. Prices have yet to be announced, but are expected to be the same as previous years. However, it should be noted that there will be new sets of bundles this time around, which will include boxes of all four (4) types in one purchase. These will come in sets of 3 (12 boxes total, at a 10% discount), 7 (28 total, at a 20% discount), 20 (80 total, at a 33% discount), and 50 (200 total[!], at a 40% discount). Keep an eye on your game region’s portal page for pricing info once the boxes arrive.
