Armoured Archives: Cobra 1954 Design & Development

Cobra was the result of the 7th Technical Staff Course for the Fighting Vehicle’s Design Division while part of the British School of Tank Technology (STT) at Shrivenham in November 1954.

The Cobra was similar to other contemporary oscillating tanks of its period on the layout but had considerably more armour at the cost of mobility. The weapons chosen would have been very effective for the period although later advances in ERA and laminated armours would have meant a KE round would have been needed.
