World of Warships – Let The Holiday Season Start #3

Hello everyone,

Could we say it’s a good or bad situation, the fact that WG EU decided to give everyone the Santa’s Christmas Convoys missions, after all the locomotion players created? Well, it’s a good situation because they actually changed their mind and listened to the players, but it’s a bad because we had to go through all this trouble to get what they should never had taken away.

But like I said before, let’s focus on the positives and applause WG for doing something right to fix an issue they created. Here’s the official announcement:

Dear Captains,

We hope the holiday season was enjoyable for you and we sincerely apologise for the lack of proper communication on why we did not release the Christmas Convoy for our European Server yet.

Let me give this another try as I think it is important that we own up to our mistakes and listen to you at the same time. First and foremost we felt that time-gating access to this new and exciting ship (releasing packages in intervals of time, from most expensive to least expensive) would be against our players’ interest and we wanted to ensure that each player had access to Graf Spee while retaining the choice between having additional discounts on content bundles or purchasing just the ship.

This unfortunately was incompatible with the mission format of the Christmas Convoy, which led us to believe that it was better to not participate than to make the missions only available over Christmas to those who are spending a lot of money. We do understand that it felt like we withheld content from you and I do personally feel sorry for that. Since this content was time and money gated we felt it was the right thing to do, but we should have better communicated our reasons and for that we only have ourselves to blame.

We did negotiate with our global team and the other regions to adjust their original plan and can now happily say that Europe is ready to join the Convoy on 2 January. The change to the other regions primarily means that they will catch up with Europe and also offer Graf Spee unbundled and bundled earlier than planned, so the missions will become available to all owners of Graf Spee.

The Convoy Campaign will start in Europe on 2 January (00:01 UTC) and will last until 18 January (23:59 UTC) synchronous with the other regions. This means that all the content of the in-game missions will become available on Monday for everyone, regardless of which package they purchased. Those of you working hard on the “Hunt for Graf Spee” campaign mission chain – you will have access to all of the mission content upon completion of the 4th mission of said campaign.

Special information for everyone who purchased camouflages (in-game or through the Premium Shop) that are available as mission rewards in this Christmas Convoy Campaign:

If you complete the mission granting you the respective reward camouflage before 18 January (23:59 UTC) and bought any or all of the Campaign Camouflages, you will receive an equivalent compensation in Doubloons after the end of the Campaign (on or before 21 January). This affects the Campaign Camouflages for the following vessels: Fuso, Leander, Admiral Graf Spee, Budyonny, Bayern, Farragut and Tirpitz.

Since the other regions did have a head start on the missions, if the players there spent $100 or $75 respectively, we wanted to make sure we compensated the European players who also invested a comparable amount into getting the new ship. Therefore, all players who purchased the Admiral Graf Spee Supreme offer before this article was published will receive the last 4 mission rewards (Fuso + distinct camouflage + port slot, Bayern + distinct camouflage + port slot, distinct camouflage for Admiral Graf Spee, distinct Camouflage for Tirpitz) regardless of their completion after the end of the campaign (on or before 21 January). Attention – purchasing the Supreme Bundle after this message is published will not unlock this benefit!

We understand that the communication around this has been terrible and I apologise for all the unrest during this festive season. I wish you all the best for 2017 and am looking forward to seeing you on the seas!

With kind regards,

Markus Schill

General Manager Wargaming Europe

The other “good news” is that other Servers will now get the Graf Spee deals sooner, so if you want to buy just the cruiser you will be able to for a decent price and you won’t have to wait. In the end all end’s well, right? Don’t forget to go around the forums and praise WG for their decision, this way they might stop doing poor decisions and listen to what you all want.

I know some of you might think I’m being ridiculous about this, but I do believe it’s the way forward. Use forums and other means to moan/complain when something is wrong, but also use them to tell WG when they do something right.

World of Warships 0.6.0.0 Public Test

Hello everyone,

Update 0.6.0.0 is on it’s way but before we can have it, we need to test it. Public Test will be running from 29 December 2016 at 17:30 CET until 03 January 2017 at 14:00 CET. The biggest change for this update is the total redesign and inclusion of brand new Commander Skills.

These changes are going to have a big impact in the game that KaZanova, WG Staff, has posted the following on the World of Warships Asia Official Forum:

What we didn’t like?

  • 5 levels of commander’s skills made for too long of an upgrade at the end, and it was hard to justify the usefulness of 5 points.
  • Different numbers of skills on different levels, and “way too deep upgrades” also reduced variability – for each ship / type, in many cases, there was only one optimal combination. This negated the purpose of the skills – together with upgrades, they allow players to fine-tune the ship for individual styles of play.
  • In the current version of the game, there was an imbalance of certain skills in either cost or effectiveness.
  • There were only a few skills suited for aircraft carriers.
  • Current skill classification focused on the obvious – on the characteristics affected, not the style of the game.
  • There was a “practical” limit (18 points) and a “theoretical” one (19); after these, a commander’s development was completely unclear.

How did we deal with these issues?

  • Now the maximum cost of a skill is 4 points. The maximum number of points is 19; the speed of upgrading at the end was increased, and in the beginning – slightly reduced. This sets a smoother and more interesting tempo for upgrading a commander at all stages.
  • The number of skills increased, the matrix grew “in width”. As a result, we get a lot of interesting new combinations, and a far greater variability.
  • Many skills were changed for the better balance. For example, Preventive Maintenance – previously a very expensive skill with an unjustified-for-five-points effect was slightly weakened and moved to level 1 – now, the bonus looks more appealing, considering the new cost. Basics of Survivability and Basic Firing Training, on the other hand,  were too powerful for the previous cost of 1 point (and therefore, uncontested) – they were moved to level 3 (and Basic Firing Training got an increased effect on AA defenses).
  • 2 specialized skills were added for aircraft carriers.
  • Classification was revised in terms of playing style. New skill groups — Endurance, Attack, Support, and Versatility — provide a better understanding of the purpose of the skills.
  • After receiving the 19th skill point (which in the new version has an adequate cost, and not the previous 9,999,999 XP), a Commander starts earning special, Elite Experience. It can be spent profitably: upgrading other commanders, quick retraining, or redistributing skills.

What changes to gameplay should be expected?

  • There will be fewer universal skill sets in the game and far more specialized ones focused on a particular approach to a ship. For example, a battleship will be easier and more effectively upgraded for survivability of anti-torpedo armament, but to fit everything fully into one skill set will be difficult.
  • There will be specific skills, around which interesting tactics can be built. For example, Radio Position Finding will let destroyers and cruisers effectively specialize in fighting for points and hunting destroyers. Inertia Fuze for HE Shells motivates players to change firing HE shells from “throwing fire around” into aiming at weak points and doing direct damage. Adrenaline Rush will encourage the most aggressive play, and will provide an opportunity to emerge victorious from a complex combat situation – and so on.
  • With the release of this version, all players can reset their skills for free. Furthermore, new elite experience will allow continuing redistribution in the future, so that experimentation will not have to be paid for with doubloons.

Any compensation?

Sure, for your comfort there will be certain measures to make the readjustment process easier. The exact mechanics will be announced later.

World of Warships – Let The Holiday Season Start #2

Hello everyone,

Ph3lan came back to the community with an update for the World of Warships Christmas Convoy EU fiasco.

Source: World of Warships Official EU Forum

“We considered this experimental double-campaign approach used in other regions and saw flaws in it. The double-campaign system does not cater to our audience in the usual manner we prepare offers. It was experimental and as we were not convinced it would work with benefit for the general audience, we decided to opt out of this part of the End of Year activities.

We knew that the Graf Spee itself would be a really important element to our players. That is why keeping this part of the event was an obvious choice. We also knew that many players would want to get their hands on special vanity items. Problems started here. The structure of the campaign combined with its time limitation did not, in our opinion, provided anyone except top payers, the option to get the items without major time commitment. This is not something we wanted nor felt right to ask of our players in the holiday period, when a big part of our loyal player base does not want to struggle between the game and family needs.

Seeing that some people would however like to get their hands on limited-edition content without the sacrifice of time spent with friends and family, we added all the camouflages for individual purchase, disconnected from bundles. This allowed anyone to cherry-pick the one or two items they are interested in fairly cheaply, without investing a huge amount of time for the campaigns or buying the Graf Spee which they may potentially not be interested in buying in the first place.

We understand that this choice has raised concerned through the community and are deeply saddened that this overshadowed so many of the other activities hosted for your entertainment during the Christmas / End of Year period.

We are currently looking into various options regarding the Christmas Convoy campaign, but even if we decide to take action in the following days, neither of them will have an immediate effect. Any event planning on this scale requires a meticulous analysis of the current situation. We learn from community feedback, as well as our mistakes, and we hope to bring you great events in the future and that we’ll manage to make you enjoy the End of Year activities regardless of this issue. The future events will be the core of our concern and that is what we are most working towards right now.”

In short: don’t expect any changes to their decision soon. I’ll be honest with you, I had a conversation with Ph3lan at WG Fest, not because of camouflages for World of Warships but for World of Tanks cases like the T26E5 Patriot and the AMX M4 mle. 49 Liberté. My opinion at the time, and still is the same, is that they should release tanks normally and then make the camouflages available for anyone that wants them, even if they cost 2500 Gold/€9.95.

Why? Because other games do it like that and players actually buy them. I have no problems if a player decides to pay €10.00 for a camouflage, it’s his problem not mine, and if they want to pay that money for a camouflage, who am I to complain? The problem is when you are forced to get a camouflage you don’t want and you can’t replace.

The same applies when other regions can get things for free and only one region is forced to pay for them. It doesn’t matter if only a few players would be able to get it because of the time frame, I would much prefer to see players have a rant about that, rather than the fact WG EU decided they have to pay for something that is free on other servers.

Of course in this case I believe WG did the wrong thing, the only positive I can see here is that Graf Spee is available for €18.85, while the other servers will have to wait a few weeks to get it that cheap.

Now, all this leaves me with one though that I’ve shared with Ph3lan: What if WG did the right thing? I believe that currently even if WG does what players ask, they would still moan and blame WG for something.

Unfortunately this problem comes from the players, because only the ones with a negative feedback actually bother to share their thoughts. The changes of a player complain about something are much higher, than the changes of that same player complement WG for something they did right. Because of this negative cloud where just players with negative feedback share their thoughts, we seem to have a bad game and WG is the worse. Maybe the case is not that, maybe WG did more positive things and we don’t remember mostly because we don’t go around and pay a compliment to WG when they actually do it.

What do you think, would you still complain if WG EU didn’t decide to remove Christmas Convoy missions? Or would you go to the Forums and praise them for giving us those missions with nice rewards?

World of Warships – Some Information from Russian Server #8

Hello everyone,

Thanks to Babykim for translating and sharing some information from the Russian Server. Please be aware the following information only applies to the Russian Server.

Developer Valter_ invites RU players to a forum group “Collectors“, a group of naval buffs.

For their activity, members of the group get the following bonuses:

  • Access to a closed section of the forum, in which they can communicate with the developers,
  • Test ships prior to release (after signing the non-disclosure agreement),
  • On request, purchase a ship which is not for sale in the premium shop,
  • More privileges are possible in the future.

To become a member of the club, the candidate needs to have:

  • At least 50 ships in port at the beginning of a quarter,
  • At least 13th level of account.

Advent Calendar 2016 – Day 23

Hello everyone,

Advent Calendar Day 23 brought us a T-34-85 Rudy, another tank from the Berlin Quartet. You can get your hands on the tank with a garage slot, 1,650 Gold and a 100% Trained Crew with 100% Brothers in arms for just €19.99. A great tank with a crew already in it? It’s almost another Cromwell B deal, a must have in the garage, a very decent premium Tier VI medium tank. And thats not all, the crew includes a dog and changes the Sixth Sense Sound when you get spotted. Jokes aside, if you are looking for a decent Tier VI Russian Premium Medium Tank, look no more.

World of Warships – Let The Holiday Season Start

Hello everyone,

The latest rant for the EU Server is not on World of Tanks. Surprised? This time it’s World of Warships players that are going mad. I’ve head some riots have started across several European cities… Jokes aside, the players are right about this. Let’s just see iEarlGrey video about it. Don’t forget to subscribe his awesome channel.

The Long Version

The Resume

XueLong started a topic on the official EU forum with a resume of the latest news for those who missed it. He starts by stating the obvious that every worthy player of World of Warships already know: Graf Spee is a free Premium Ship which you can get for free by playing, across all servers.

Now comes the rant: On NA, SEA and RU Servers player got a second set of missions where they can get for free several Tier 6 Warships, unique camouflages and even a German Commander with 10 skill points. But if you are from the EU Region, the RNG Gods do not favour you, because you don’t have access to these missions.

Well, you do have access to the camouflages at least, good right? Not really, because you have to pay an arm and a leg for them. How much? Depends on what you want. If you want a unique Tirpitz Camouflage you have to pay 3,000 Doubloons. Yes, nothing less than €11,78 for a camouflage that other servers can get for free. Just to get an idea on how far this goes, here’s a nice table XueLong put together.

If you don’t consider the normal warships players can get and just look at the camouflages and port slots, that is a total of 11,500 Doubloons or in other words €40.75! Yes, players from the EU Region are asked to pay that much for something other regions get for free.

Plus they miss a German Captain with 10 Skill Points and a total of 16,800,000 Credits for the warships they will never get for free.

Do I even have to say anything else? I’ve seen Wargaming fails, loads of them, but this seems by far the biggest one. Why are players from just one server forced to pay for something others get for free? Do want to know why? We actually got an answer from Wargaming Staff, Tuccy.

Ladies, gentlemen, I can see that you are unhappy (well, I can also see why ;)), but just few things to consider here on top of what is in the article:

  • The camouflages/ships are included in other regions in a campaign, that is rather challenging – and tied only to the Graf Spee ownership. While it is possible to get the ship for free during a 4-week campaign, that would leave a precious little time to get the convoys.
  • For EU server, we have decided to enable access to the camouflages as standard Premium camos, directly in the game client – thus giving more players a chance to get them.
  • We decided not to use regular tech tree ships as mission reward.
  • Another change will be the sales themselves – instead of starting with the most expensive package and gradually unlocking others – something we know you do not like too much – we will follow our usual policy and we will be launching all bundles at the same time.
  • We will of course track numbers and follow the feedback and yes, I realize these facts should have been included in the today’s article – the situation would have been clearer I guess.

And just to put a confirmation, yes, if you buy Spee and complete mission, you will get a Credit compensation – as with usual Premium ships (just to clarify – there was no compensation for ARP, but ARP ships are NOT Premium).

Hope this sheds at least some light, now I shall retreat into the foxhole.

So we seem to have a corporate decision just for the EU Region, seems Wargaming EU thought players didn’t want to decide if they wanted all that stuff for free or if they wanted to pay for it… “Let’s make them pay because it’s Christmas and people like to spend money… Why not?”

And with this, I’ll just leave here what the EU Players are thinking of WG EU this Christmas…
