World of Tanks VR

2 min read

World of Tanks VR is an instalment of the game we all love/hate now in virtual reality. Recently Wargaming announced a partnership with Neurogaming to create World of Tanks VR, where 2 to 4 players can face each other in immersive tank battles.

About the Game

Gameplay

You control a T-44-100 tank. The goal is to destroy as many enemy tanks as possible during 2 rounds of 4 minutes each. One game session lasts up to 10 minutes.

Player’s tank

The Soviet T-44-100 mid-sized, experimental tank was created in 1945 based on the T-44 tank, which was in turn being developed to replace the legendary T-34. Unlike the serial T-44, the -100 variation boasts a 100-mm LB-1 gun, a modified turret to accommodate it, and spaced armor along the sides.

Location

A snowy and hilly terrain with all kinds of obstacles, shelters and destructible objects. Winding roads running across hills and village ruins allow you to approach the enemy from behind and find a lot of places for an ambush.

VR engine and hardware

WORLD OF TANKS VR is built on the Unreal Engine and adapted for the HTC VIVE VR headset. The game is a joint development of Wargaming and Neurogaming. Future plans include releasing additional tank models maps specifically for World of Tanks VR.

  1. It would be nice if they implemented the headset(VR) in PC with options of 3rd person, 1st person, and a Hatch view.
Also, Playing this against someone with a keyboard and mouse would just get your head Blown off.

  2. You know, some things are perfectly suited for VR headsets, while others are completely pointless and only done because it’s possible AND the company who made that usage has too much money so they dunno what else to waste it on… Guess which one’s WG.

  3. Well, done right a VR tank game can be very good since it doesn’t rely on feet movement, just hand and head movement. Does this mean WG and NG can get it right? Not necessarily but there’s undoubtedly potential for it

  4. It might have potential, but i always thought a VR tank game would be from the perspective of INSIDE the tank. That way the player wouldn’t need to move as much…

Let’s see what this leads to

  5. nice idea, with lots of potentials, as mentioned on the previous comments. But from all the tanks why they chosen this one ? 😛

  6. I agree, From the perspective of one of the operators would definitely enhance the experience.

Just imagine a 4 player co-op game. A commander that has 360 deg view and is calling out targets. A driver who only has a partial view in-front of him. The gunner who can only aim through the auxiliary sights. The loader can only see inside the hull/turret.

All of them can look around inside the tank and everyone would need to co-operate to make the tank run as effectively as possible

  7. All I can see is they’re implementing a game mode that no one is going to use. It’s going to fail spectacularly… thanks WG for spending money and resources on something no one asked for rather than stuff people like such as new tanks and maps.
