World of Tanks Q&A with Anton Pankov

Pavel “Amway921″ Sukhanov’s published another Q&A video, this time with Anton “Evilly”. WOT Express did a transcript with the most relevant information.

  • In addition to the Chinese Tank Destroyers, there is already a SPG branch ready, but it remains the question if will be released or not.
  • Tier IX Chinese Tank Destroyer WZ-120G FT will be released for the Chinese region only. Other regions should expect the Tier VIII, WZ-120-1G FT to be released.
  • KongZhong comes to Wargaming with a lot of requests. Unique tanks, crews, maps are just the tip of the iceberg.
  • Waffentrager auf E 100 is another example of KongZhong requests. Wargaming won’t be selling it as a Premium on other regions together with a very expensive bundle. Anton: “The money isn’t worth the amount of negativity we and the owners of this tank would get. It would be completely out of order.”
  • A lot of players have been requesting for the ability to buy Tier IX and X Premium vehicles. There are thoughts on the possibility to introduce this, but Wargaming has many reservations to this, specially with Tier IX. It won’t be any immediate prospect and there is a high chance this will never actually happen.
  • FV215b replacement with Super Conqueror decision is very recent and the idea belongs to Murazor.
  • Wargaming is planning to rebalance a lot of tanks, not just higher tiers, at the moment they are aiming at a “dozen” that could fix a large amount of issues.
  • There are plans and thoughts for the Soviet branch, if the IS-4 is moved or replaced, players will keep it in their garages. Currently the main issue is to find a decent replacement. It could be the ST-II with two barrels, but there are several technical nuances and issues.
  • Next patch will be 9.20.1.
  • Anton believes that with the introduction of the WZ-111 model 5A, IS-7 feels “so-so”, it could receive further changes depending on data.
  • Players should expect all next patches upcoming until February-April 2018 to be focused on balance, either with the replacement of some tanks or changes on “old” ones.
  • Wargaming wanted to experiment some changes to the KV-5 on Supertest, but they had some difficulties. Either way, preferential matchmaking tanks will have to be rebalanced and this will bring some level of discontent.
  • There isn’t an official decision yet, on what will be done. Wargamin wants to have all options open and available. There is an option to remove the preferential matchmaker, another one to redeem and compensate for something, but all these are still hypotheses, not final decisions. Anton personal opinion is to remove the preferential matchmaker and rebalance these tanks to the current meta.
  • With the introduction of a new rating system, Wargaming hopes to push the players perception from overall statistics on the account, towards skill on a particular tank.
  • At the moment Wargaming is working on the Mod Portal, but this is still in alpha. Unfortunately work is still going slowly, but Wargaming is also working on implementing some of these mods to the game. Final objective is to close the ability to create mods and use them, unless available in the Mod Portal.
  • There is currently no one working on the ability to hide the player account statistics. The idea wasn’t scrapped, Wargaming wants to implement it correctly and decide exactly what will affect.
  • Ranked Battles tests will continue, but Wargaming has already a general final version ready. Changes will depend on how next test goes.

Why not do what they’re doing in WoWs and offer tier 9 and 10 premiums for free exp? That way you lock out beginner players and force them to have to play they game for a considerable amount of time before they can amass the exp required for them so they should know how to play by that point

    1. I opened up a poll on the Asia server forums and Tanitha, the person who decides what premiums get sold on the Asia server, said that it would be possible to even limit who can buy the tanks and set a required number of games played and win rate to be able to purchase a tier 9 or 10 premium. Means a player literally has to get good before they can purchase the tanks so you dont get any noobs thinking they can handle tier 10 after a few hundred games

The plus side of tier 9 and 10 premiums is that OP premiums that won’t be nerfed such as the Defender because they’re premium can be pushed to tier 9 where they would be considered more balanced

  3. There is no word about WG idea to introduce upcoming Grand battles in lower tiers, soon after they first implement them in tier X next patch!
People, that would be a disaster! And i think we should do what ever we can to stop it, while we can…

Cause I think upcoming Grand battles should be everyday special option for tier X tanks, as well as Ranked battles from time to time. Something worth your time in tier X tanks.
Also, and MORE IMPORTANT, the way I see it, Grand battles can be great way to bound as much tier X tanks in random battles, so that tier VIII tanks (especially premium ones, that we all rely on for earning us some credits) can finally breed in random and do job for which they are made! Because this way, as I suppose all of you know by now, new MM is great for tier X, but in tier VIII you can’t hope to be top tier in more then one game in ten matches! Consequently, you have to shoot more gold and your income is much less then before…

So, my final point is this: Giving tier X Grand battles as exclusive is great way to fix downside of new MM, which is better then before, don’t get me wrong, but still have some downsides… Bringing Grand battles to lower tier than tier X would just prolong this unbearable situation and premium tier VIII would still be bottom tiers 90% of time, which is something we should fight to make WG aware and change it!

That is my opinion, correct me if I am wrong…

    2. grand battles will only bring some relief to the Tier8 tanks concerning matchmaking. Tier 6 & 7 are still fucked. The whole 3/5/7 is wrong. They have to scrap that

Interesting topic, and it brings up many many questions. First of all, the limited tanks are all different as well, there are some of them which already perform well as a limited (WZ-111, Type 59, FCM 50t), and some which struggle (IS-6, KV-5). Personally I collected almost every single limited premium vehicle, because it was said, they would be removed from the shops, but you can keep them as they are. Something I paid for shouldn’t be changed, although, I have to admit, for example an IS-6 with better armor, the gun from the defender and normal MM could be quite awesome. Type 59 with faster acceleration, a littlebit better frontal plate and better gun stats, definitely great deal also.

    1. The fcm is awfull right now, like it has a decent(ish) gun, but it has literally 0 armour and among the worst camo ratings of all tier 8 heavies, sure its fast, but what use is that if you can get mediums that are as good if not better at everything. (Like the centurion or loads of others, that bit of extra DPM doesn’t matter as its quite rare you can use your DPM to its fullest)

And even limited MM tier 8s see pretty much always tier 9 in my experience.

      1. What? The FCM is my 3rd favorite premium in my garage only after the skorpion g and obj 252U. It’s the best pref. MM tank in the game since it is as fast as many mediums the armor is bad but still enough to bouce tier 6, 7 and even some low pen tier 8 tanks. The gun handling is great and it has the best pen of all pref mm tanks which is one of the most important factors with the current super heavy meta. A tank that has dificulties using it’s (on paper) insane DPM in the current meta is for example the IS-6 with only 175mm pen and not much better premium rounds.
