Portugal declared three days of national mourning for the victims, after a massive wildfire started and claimed 64 lives. From fathers, mothers, grandparents to the youngest child aged two…
A lightning strike is believed to have sparked the blaze in the Pedrogão Grande area after investigators found a tree that was hit during a “dry thunderstorm”. 62 people died from the flames and suffocating smoke, while another two people perished in a traffic accident related to the fires. Another 157 people were injured, including four firefighters and a seriously injured minor.
The loss of life due to a forest fire was the largest in memory in Portugal. It has been more than 50 years since 25 Portuguese soldiers were killed fighting wildfires in 1966.
Some of the Victims
This tragedy has affected me and all Portuguese to a personal level, even if we didn’t lose anyone there, we lost up to this moment 64 lives that all they wanted was to be safe, grow up, see their kids graduate from University… I still fell an ocean of emotions every time I see their faces, thinking to myself “What would I do if it was my family?”
Time to help those left with nothing!
From the ashes we must rise and help one another. There are already several charity institutions giving their full support to the victim families and to those who were left with nothing, after their houses were burned to the ground.
But there isn’t ever enough help, so I was contacted by WizzDCast in order to do a Charity Stream, where all donations will be given to aid the ones who were affected by this tragedy.
Wednesday, 21st of June, from 9:30 PM CEST.
Please join us on WizzDCast stream tomorrow, 21st of June from 9:30pm CEST / 8:30pm GMT, even if it’s just to give word of support for all the victims. As a thank you to everyone, we will be giving away some codes for World of Warships and World of Tanks.
