Object 252U Review by Harkonnen

5 min read

Hello everyone,

I’ve been given a test account to try out the upcoming Russian Premium Heavy Tank: Object 252U. The tank will be available in two options: Object 252U and Object 252U Defender, where the second one it’s the same tank but with a permanent hero camouflage.

Note this will be the first Hero Tank available for the EU Server without it’s Hero Camouflage. Seems Wargaming decided to listen to players…

I will be giving you an honest opinion about the tank and share with you my experience with it over the 40 battles I’ve played with it.

Description

A draft project, prepared during the development of the IS-6 heavy tank. The draft was completed by the end of 1944. Later, work on the IS-6 was stopped, and the development of the project was discontinued. The vehicle never entered service.

Armour

Analysis and Opinion

If you get this tank, make sure you remember it’s aim time and accuracy are terrible. This means you will need to get this stats buffed as much as possible. To achieve this it’s highly recommended you get a decent crew with Snap Shot, Smooth Ride and Brothers in Arms. Equip your tank with Ventilation, Large Caliber Rammer and Vertical Stabilizer. (See values above marked in green).

The tank will get matched against Tier X all the time, in over 40 battles I was Top Tier about… 6 times. Armour is decent and it can troll your enemies to the point of using HE because they can’t penetrate you, even if they are Tier IX or X.

But, as a troll the armour can troll you too, specially if they know where to penetrate your armour. While the hull armour behaves like an IS-7 and if you angle it it can be almost impenetrable for Tier VIII and lower, there is a big weakness on it: commander and loader hatch on the turret.

They are weak with just 150mm armour on it, almost any tank can penetrate it, meaning even if you angle your tank, a Tier VII or even a Tier VI shooting APCR will melt your hit points like a hot knife through butter.

Another weak spot, but harder to hit, is the roof just after the drivers hatch. This area here is only 30mm thick, meaning any gun over 90mm calibre will overmatch it. It’s protected by a 250mm shield that makes it hard to hit, but if you shoot the gun mantle your shot can bounce off to the roof and penetrate it. Of course this second option is harder to do, but it did happen to me a few times.

When it comes to mobility, it’s just another Russian Tank, it’s not fast but it has decent terrain resistances, meaning it does turn around and moves quite easily. The major problem I had while playing it was the gun handling, it’s just plain terrible. I was constantly missing fully aimed shots when trying to side scrape with the tank, even at close range. If you are moving and suddenly stop the tank to turn your turret and try to shot at an enemy, you find yourself wasting a round because the gun just decided to shot Wargaming Moon Base while fully aimed at the enemy tank 300m away. This is not a sniper tank, you will need to get close to your enemies to be able to fight them.

Some players will call this an idiot proof tank but I don’t quite agree. I believe this tank is like an IS-6 and IS-5, it’ looks nice on paper, but in the end you need to be a very decent player to make it work. The IS-6 has special match making and that it’s what it makes it good, but you still see average players complain about it.

In my most honest opinion, as soon as we start seeing more of these out there in the battlefield, this won’t look OP as it looks now. Let’s face it, any Unicum can make this tank look awesome and OP, but the majority of players out there are just average players, this means it won’t perform 100,000 credit battles all the time, if you get 1 of these battles every 20 you are lucky.

That said, it does make a good amount of credits per battle. I found myself, even on defeats, making over 50,000 credits profit per battle (with premium account). So in some way this can be a noob friendly tank, because if you do an average 1,600 damage per battle you can still make a decent profit. But if we compare this with an IS-6, the IS-6 can actually be better because of it’s special match making. Not having to face Tier X means you will be able to get a higher average damage per battle, resulting in more credits.

The tank is as good as the player, that is true, but if you are just an average player but there are other tanks out there that are very easier to master.

  1. It may be idiot proof if you get magical MM, play a few games in it and decide to label it “idiot proof” because you’re on the WG pay roll.

In other news, its a brand new tank, testing shows players haven’t got a clue how to deal with it, they don’t know its weak spots yet, so that is why you see these ******ed Chuck Norris-style replays where a 252 limps away (but survives) from a 4 on 1 encounter.

When you actually do some deep analysis… play it over a long period and see that actually, decent players who are 3 or 4 dimensional in there approach can easily overcome the ability to resist the temptation to shoot the pike 10 times and not pen. Will learn that it has pronounced weak spots frontally. We therefore understand this is simply an IS6 replacement, rebalanced according to non pref MM, decent credit earner, can bounce but its nothing really special.

    Trolls you, trolls me.

  2. I wouldn’t call 2 small lines weakspot. That’s highly situational.

What I’m more annoyed is that whole front, besides those 2 small lines is 230mm+ proof, which is for better tier 8 50% chance, and for T32 and similar powercreeped squad under 50%. Against same tier HT. Yeah, I’m not amused.

  3. “period and see that actually, decent players who are 3 or 4 dimensional in there approach can easily overcome the ability to resist the temptation to shoot the pike 10 times…”

You can’t use that as argument, that’s not what average WoT player would od.

  4. Well i hope that we have both options on EU server, with and without the camo. Unlike USA and French tanks, I actually like this ”hero” paintjob. Also, I’ve been watching all possible replays and it doesn’t really seem as OP tank to me… It is good strong tank, but not OP.

  5. so your saying that only average players will meet the 252?

Again, there are a proportion of decent players (3rd / 4th dimensional players who use there brains correctly) will either read up on the tank or figure out for themselves where they can pen.

My point is, a few vids showing a load of donkeys fighting a brand new tank and not knowing how to kill it doesn’t prove it to be idiot proof.

Yes its got nice armour, but there are many more tanks with supposedly idiot proof armour.

There is no such thing as idiot proof.

Idiots will still fail hard in this tank

  6. …and clearly, mommy still spoon feeds you.

I see you need an adult to ***ist you here so allow me to help.

This review tells you exactly what you need to know about this tank without the BS.

Yes there are very good features to this tank which make it a very worthy Tier 8 prem, but lets be clear. Harkonnen is very honestly critiquing this tank and clearly pointing out the pros and cons.

Given the bias view and opinions of other CC’s etc who are basically selling this new tank as a miracle cure for the crippled, maybe you missed those.

The review was quiet transparent as I read it… but the logic fail on your part is frankly obtuse.

  7. i use is6 in rental time and like it very much so u say i buy OBJECT 252U or IS6?
