World of Warships Supertest: British Tier VII Premium Battleship Collingwood

4 min read

Historical background

Collingwood is roughly based on the F2 battlecruiser design from November 1921. The design, following the limitations of the Washington Naval Treaty, was armed with six 381 mm (15″) guns in three twin turrets and had a planned displacement of 35 000 tons. At the same time, the O3 design of battleship was being developed and lead to the creation of the Nelson-class.

In World of Warships, Collingwood is roughly following the F2 design but with clear modifications. Namely, she is armed with 419 mm (16.5″) guns and her speed was dropped from the 29 knots of the F2 design to 25 knots for some reason.

Other than that, she presents the classic thin armor protection of a battlecruiser. She sadly has the same dispersion as the British tech tree battleships instead of the battlecruiser dispersion.

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

Personal Opinion

Right now, Collingwood doesn’t look particularly appetizing. She only has six guns without battlecruiser dispersion and, unlike Nelson, doesn’t have a Specialized Repair Team.

Also, the ship is particularly lightly armored with the 16 mm bow and stern as well as 26 mm armor on the deck and sides.

  1. Right, so since she has 419mm guns, that means she’ll overmatch 29mm of armour rather than the typical 28mm by 406/410mm guns. Not sure how much impact that difference might have on gameplay.

  2. Collingwood isn’t based in any battlecruiser design, if it was, its speed would be better. The hull is almost identical to Nelson’s, only with twin turrets ans some modifications to the rear superstructure (type of funnels, placement of twin secondary turrets). I don’t think they based this on any design, I think this is just a turret swap, with a few changes to the superstructure to make it look a bit more different than, say, Brandenburg.
