Supertest: Italian Tier IV Destroyer Turbine

4 min read

Historical background

Turbine was the lead ship of the Turbine-class of the destroyers from the Regia Marina. The ship was laid down in March 1925, launched in April 1927 and completed in August 1927.
While the first years of her career were fairly quiet, Turbine later took an active role during the Spanish Civil War. Alongside Nazi Germany, Italy helped the Nationalists by forming a blockade against Soviet convoys supplying the Republicans.
Turbine helped to sink the cargo ship Timiryazev.

During the Second World War, Turbine mostly took part in convoy escort and submarine hunting duties. After Italy signed the Armistice in September 1943, Turbine was transferred to the Kriegsmarine and renamed TA14. She resumed her duty as a convoy escort until she was sunk in September 1944.

Ship’s preview

For the classic reminder, this is a ship in testing, anything can change so don’t look at her like she would already be released.

The Armor

The Turbine is covered with 10 mm of armor everywhere except for the turrets that are only protected with 6 mm.

Personal Opinion

Compared to Nazario, Turbine takes a mobility and maneuverability nerf. On top of that, she is also bigger making it much easier to hit. The main battery reload time improvement she gets is nice but I don’t think that she will be as good of a gunboat as Clemson can be.
